Grawg's 86 4Runner
#41
I've been shaking down the 4Runner over the last few days. And for the most part it is running pretty good. I had a small coolant leak, from the bottom radiator hose. Tightened the clamps and everything seems to be fine. Also the alternator went out on me. It was an aftermarket remanned. The brushes were fine but it was not putting out any voltage. So a remanned factory one was put in. Working for a dealer has some perks. I don't know what I'd do if I had to pay retail for factory parts. Now what's left is idler arm and brace, alignment, recovery points, and armor.
No pics lately because it really looks the same. And does anyone want to see a new alternator? I don't think so.

You have been making a lot of progress. I'm jealous of your soft topper. I want one badly.
I have had the clips come off of the injectors and the connector slides away just enough to break the connection. I also ha a few where the female connector was broken and I had to rig up zip ties in the meantime.
Glad you got it figured out

Thanks Gizler! I feel like I am keeping a diary here. Not knowing if anyone is really reading my ramblings.
Next on the 4Runner is idler arm and brace. A tech at work had a factory idler arm off a 93 SR5 4x4 that was only a year old and in great shape. It's now in my possession. Thanks Rick!

Very nice to work at the dealership like that. Get good parts at a huge discount and even score lightly used stuff as well!!

I know it's been awhile since I've posted. There really hasn't been much progress. Nothing has really needed to get done. I have taken it out a couple times, and it's done fairly well. I drive it to work a couple times a week. But then again I haven't really pushed it. It does now have an idler arm brace, (thanks blazeland!) TG rock sliders, and a lower control arm brace (hit something and bent it immediately! Oh well) I really enjoy driving it when the weather is nice and hot. But in the rain it is not fun. We'll see if I decide to keep it, or move on to the next project. While my rebuilt 22re is doing great, I wish I had a lot more power. Maybe an engine swap is in my future?

Anyway here are some pics! Cuz I know that's what we really like to look at!
