After scouring locally for a while, I finally sourced a donor frame to replace my rotted out frame under my '94 SWB pickup. The problem...The donor frame is a 1986 LWB.
So, I had a series of questions to ask myself. The most important of them being "Do I really want to take on such a time-involved project?"
After seeing the frame, and the cab, motor, tranny, etc that was coming with it; there was no way I could pass it up for the price. I mean I could have trailered it straight to the scrap yard and MADE MONEY....so I figure what the hell,.. Good learning opportunity, and cheap (and more importantly fairly local) fix for my little green turd!
Since this is a build up section I figured I would document the nitty gritty of frame sectioning and shortening, from LWB to SWB since after searching here and other forums there doesnt seem to be anyone doing this conversion. I will take lots of pics in hopes of helping some other poor bastard like me thats dumb enough to give it a shot haha!
Anyway, I'm lucky enough to be an "essential" employee, so I gotta head to work, will update soon
there is a pretty straight section of frame under the cab. i took the 9 inches out just ahead of the cab mount. had to cut off the rear cab mount front two bed mounts and the cross member. after shortening the frame weld back on the rear cab mounts move the cross member use the short bed fuel tank and move the front 2 bed mounts rear most bed mounts needed to be re drilled.
whole thing from pulling the donor off the trailer pulling both trucks apart to having a running driving functional truck again was probably about 40 hours worth of work.
