Elsa the family 94 4Runner
Brought a new runner home for the family and got rid of the 08 Subaru!!! We used to have a 95 before I was interested in mechanics and sold it because of a vacuum issue I couldn't find. Now we have a 94 22re! No ac😒 but might do a complete factory ac set up next summer.
So now to the runner
It's got a brand new head in it with 8k on it runs good down the road brakes seem nice. It was apparently towed behind a rv says it has 240 on it the man I got it from was the 2nd owner he said it has closer to 140 on it. It was his uncles car who was retired and basically used it for his errands while traveling in his rv. I asked him why it had a new head. Apparently he was stranded and trying to get home alternator belt blew then the water pump quit working obviously then his radiator blew kept driving it trying to get home and then he got it in and there was a crack in the head. So new head got installed new radiator new belts. It does need a new washer fluid pump it looks rusted or something looks kinda melted so I gotta see if I can find one from a v6 in the junk yard don't know if they match up tho. Needs the under sides of the fenders closed up don't know why those are missing. The cap to the fuse box in the engine bay is missing. I noticed some wiring not hooked up and didn't have time to follow them. It has a really silly horn hooked up sounds like a car alarm. Now there is 2 issues currently driving me nuts
1. the idle is good at start up goes up to 1500 rpms and comes down normally then it's down to about 500 and kinda fluctuates lower and higher. I first assumed it was a vacuum leak because of my last truck. got some throttle body cleaner and sprayed it around checked all the lines nothin crunchy I checked the egr, that works still. Checked the main intake tube that seemed fine. I moved around the idle up screw that works still. So then I decided to try n pull the codes. I got 14 points to failure to receive signal from igniter.? So here the weird thing the research I have done seems like trucks that had head work get this. Trucks that sit get this. Apparently the igniters barely ever go bad like never go bad. The coils can be replaced. I cleared the codes and tried again same issue but no code yet. I'm gonna do new plugs, wires, and a cap hopefully this helps or fixes it. I need to figure out how to test the coil and igniter see if those actually are the problem but I don't think the igniter is the issue apparently when they go out its real apparent they just stop working.
2. My shifter is a PITA for some reason when I replaced the seat and bushing it has shifted so crappy. It's not the clutch because I don't hear it at all it's just the shifter going from dead stop to first or revers. Driving down the road it shifts fine I have to move the shifter around and push it a little into other gears slightly and then it goes back in. Now here's what I think is going on. <a href="http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/keithwct/media/4E6E44AB-E01C-43F4-A127-FFD47F010088.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t384/keithwct/4E6E44AB-E01C-43F4-A127-FFD47F010088.png" border="0" alt=" photo 4E6E44AB-E01C-43F4-A127-FFD47F010088.png"/></a> the pins that hold the seat in place one of the pins was snapped off. I put the seat back in but maybe it's causing the seat to shift around in there and not allow it to go into gear properly. Another thing I thought of is that it wasn't a Toyota oem part was a orileys some aftermarket piece. Any help is appreciated
Plans for this truck consist of
1" bj spacers
2 inch coil spacers for the rear
Ad some black paint
Get rid of side steps.
Swing out tire carrier
Add in ac
Swap on my dean sxt 31" mts
Roof bars and rack
20" led bar
New latch system for car seat from some other vehicle 2000 and up were required to have them
It'll make taking the car seat out and putting it in that much easier.
All led interior because we all need to see
New rear speakers front speakers have been up graded and sound actually good. I would like to try and find a lsd for the rear 3rd.
Basically I now have my toy and my wife's toy but hers is more for hauling kids and running around town. I do want her to be able to follow me and get all the places I can simply because who likes camping next to every one else hah.
I will be trying to make this vehicle super comfortable and adding convince for longer rides. DVD player Bluetooth handless phone calls back up camera tinted windows possible Ceiling console out of a Chevy and more as I go I'm sure. Here's some pics of it and some of the things I'm looking at
<a href="http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/keithwct/media/35EEF13D-EF92-4232-9376-1F93211104CB.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t384/keithwct/35EEF13D-EF92-4232-9376-1F93211104CB.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 35EEF13D-EF92-4232-9376-1F93211104CB.jpg"/></a>
I'm pretty sure this should be mounted some where and I feel like that's a ground. Thought this might be a reason for my low idle and code 14.

This is the wire I suspect it's stiff and kinda crunch it's going to that plug connecting to the distributor

Here's my problem with the shifter notice the pin missing on the passenger side? I've seen a guy weld it back on there I also thought about getting a Marlin short shifter haven't looked up the price but if I was to get a whole new oem one would be 56 bucks. Welding ? Free. So while I was doing this I bought the oem bushing and seat here's this pin that broke
<a href="http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/keithwct/media/9A701CAF-606C-4CBA-AC59-11708B67A435.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t384/keithwct/9A701CAF-606C-4CBA-AC59-11708B67A435.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 9A701CAF-606C-4CBA-AC59-11708B67A435.jpg"/></a>
It actually shifts better but I can tell that it's missing something. once this mess is takin care of I'm gonna do a tranny flush and fill it up with Royal purple or red line I've always used royal purple just because it's on sale every time I go to orileys

Well I haven't touched her to much she's just a stock truck still and my wife has been enjoying her with the kids and all. One thing I got figured out is the shifting got another bushing and seat from Toyota and it shifted better. Got the flange and it shifts perfect now. No clutch or tranny problem. I did have to cut back the body a bit to get to the bolts on the tranny to change the flange. I was doing some snooping around in the engine bay and just still trying to figure something out with the low idle took some pics and I think I figured out why it has a salvage title.
There had to be a fire. See I was looking by the fuse box which doesn't have a lid band the washer pump has never worked so I was looking around saw a melted bit of wire that was corroded pulled it out wasn't attached to anything. Then I pulled out the washer pump

this looks like it's super melted!
Probably why the horn is aftermarket now. Explains a lot now I want to do a car fax maybe to just find everything out. The truck has been getting bad mpg and still has the crap idle. Now cold start is perfect every time engine runs smooth and then gets just a little rough and has a slight surge. I check fluid levels regularly coolant isn't going anywhere I looked at the plugs today. Look new still. The oil is a little dirty and I think it's burning a little maybe at start up but the plugs look good? There's a little exhaust leak. I opened the afm it's a remand one here's the door and sensor I didn't cut the silicone to check I'll get the test up and try and use my multi meter make sure it's in spec.

Is that door supposed to be open a little I can't remember when I was checking out my 86 I did open the one on my 86 and lean it out.
So there's that also my breaks are awesome super responsive and I was wondering every one says do the v6 swap on the 1st gens which I probably will on my 87 but what booster is this. Is this a stock set up for the 2nd gen 22res. <a href="http://s1057.photobucket.com/user/keithwct/media/ECEFB668-DA75-439D-A454-79873E6CCC5E.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1057.photobucket.com/albums/t384/keithwct/ECEFB668-DA75-439D-A454-79873E6CCC5E.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo ECEFB668-DA75-439D-A454-79873E6CCC5E.jpg"/></a>
I compared it to my 87 the booster is like another 1 1/2 inches wider.

The picture of that shifter flange was the only one I could find my brother at Toyota got me the part. Him working in the parts department is pretty helpful when I need something specific I don't know what transmission is in my 87 I was told it was from a 2nd generation runner but I'm not sure. My brother said the 90 and 91 still have the w series

My 90 4runner has a g58 and chain driven transfer case behind a 22re. I believe 4runners and trucks with ADD had the g58 and trucks with locking hubs had w56.

Sorry for the hijack, but it's good for you to know if you ever want to upgrade.
Here is another good page from Marlin about transfer cases.

If you want to swap in a doubler or 4.7 gears you can't use the current tranny or transfer case since they have a 27 spline shaft between the two and the case is chain driven.
