The windshield is in. it was installed just fine, however, i wish that theyd used a little thicker rubber trim. the corners dont sit perfect even though the tech used some foaming glue. im gonna try to get in there with a heat gun and see if i can get it to lay flat. if not, im gonna call them and have them come re-glue it.
overall, solid 8/10. we have a new windshield that doesnt leak and we no longer have to deal with the crappy sr5 trim. so, im happy enough.

a few pics to show what im trying to describe.

Yeah, a thicker rubber trim would be better. That's kind of ˟˟˟˟ty how it lifts away from the body/windsheild and they just fill it.

space-junk- I see that Safelite used what looks like a generic rubber gasket or trim piece which does not fit well in the corners. I think you want something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Winds...4AAOSwMSRfR2ET

Which is a single piece gasket made for the truck. You can see in the ebay link the corners are molded into the piece and have more of a right angle built into them vs the Safelite gasket that looks like they just bend it and glue it.

I would totally not be happy with those upper corners, and filling in the void with urethane just looks unprofessional to me.

Question: Safelite is removing and reinstalling your factory windshield or are they replacing the windshield glass with new glass? If it is just removing and reinstalling your factory glass with the new gasket, what are they charging you to do that? That's something I might want done to mine.

Im not sure if the truck and 4runner cab sections are a little different, but that says it will not work on my runner. Im not completely happy with the corners, but im going to try to use the heat gun, like the technician said, and see if that will allow the rubber to form better.
as for the cost, this was for a brand new windshield. old one was a hecho en mexico unit that was pretty pitted from its past life. ran me about $360 installed.

Hey Its Matt new name cause my old account is on a email thats no longer used, so I figured id start fresh. Gonna say it doesn't look like they used the correct weather stripping? Heat gun and a C clamp might get the corner to lay down and look better. Surprised Safelite left it that way?

84-88/89 pickups and 4Runners use the same windshields/weather stripping.

heres the deal tho, they never came with a rubber gasket from the factory. they came with that black butyl crap that toyota uses everywhere in the trucks and the glass is placed, then more butyl, and the SR5 clips get pressed into place along with the chrome. that being said, these windshields and frames are not designed for a gasket and as such, i would never run them.

You're not wrong by saying these trucks weren't built with a rubber gasket from the factory but that doesn't mean that the rubber seal isn't an upgrade. I had a new windshield installed on my 1967 Mustang and the technician used the "rope through" method from the inside of the car and it turned out great. The classic mustangs also come with the factory chrome trim and clips to hold down the pieces. Basically exactly the same as our 4Runners.

Doomy used a heat gun and gave it the onions. the trim layed down almost perfect. its not as up in the corners as id like, but it doesnt stick up. i think when i go to get the windshield next replaced, ill have them put a wider trim on. that should take care of the issues.

Space junk, what a thread. I had never seen it before. I gonidle from time to time as well and as most 9n here understand the elbow grease needed for these things all to well. Just showing some love here. Also, did you get your rear suspension changed? I have a pair of downey coils I bought from another user here. I used it for several years, only about 40k miles on them. They give a 1 to 1.5 inch lift and ride very well. I upgraded to much taller springs. Point is. You can have these coils if they fit your 4runner. I live in LA....uhh.. I am pretty sure yours is on coils, right?
