Picked this up the other day for $800. previous owner just dumped a ton of money into it chasing a blown head gasket he didnt know he had. anyways, its an '87 4runner SR5 Turbo. 176K miles with auto trans.

only have a few pics of it for now as we've had a busy couple of days, but here they are.

plans are to get a rebuild on the motor, rebuild the turbo(just to freshen it up, it works fine) and fix the misc. little things wrong with it.
will have motor pics sometime soon...

FWIW, the PO just replaced the solenoid for OD, and the trans shifts SMOOTH. and it only blows white smoke under HARD acceleration.
its a little gutless for my taste, but she runs just fine.

If it is blowing white smoke you could be damaging the turbo by driving it. I messed up a rebuilt turbo before I found the motor had a cracked exhaust port.
It is a sharp looking rig.

picked up a couple supplies today so i can pull the top and start sorting those gremlins out... AFAIK its got a crack in each corner above the rear window, so thats gonna need to get filled in... doing some research and i think ive decided to pull the windows and trim out and clean those up as well...

anyways, Mudbunni wants the top to be color matched to the rig... i think they look better black, but shes gonna be driving it so ill aquiesce to her request.. picked up some Rustoleum Hammer White and some scuff pads... might give it a shot to see how itll turn out... anyone ever used hammered paint on their top?

not very fast... 16.5 minutes...

LuLu was fast in first and second... it was 3rd thru 5th that messed her up...

anyways, i called her gutless because i wasnt able to mash on the pedal... REALLY build up boost... im sure that shes got some power, but thats not a risk i was willing to take... and first gear really is gutless...

He used to have sticker speed....

'butthead' must be a term of endearment.
