@Cyber
Yeah hoping they stay from VA lol I mean guess i could slap antique plates on her....she is 26 this year
@Chef
Thanks for the compliment....I just wish I could start showing some progress haha
@Black 1985
Thanks....any sense in replacing it?
Ummmm perhaps going to local mechanic shop sale....They went out of business and are getting rid of their stuff....for cheap....so I heard. Hoping I can make it and snag up a few good things! Made a order with toyotapartszone.com yesterday...It'll get here....eventually

Don't even stress man! If you want to feel like everything is going swimmingly... Just look back to my build thread at least 100 different dilemmas and hang ups because me near cranial aneurysms! Lol... You will get it and it will be sick and you will love driving it thereafter... Two thumbs up homie!

you need the dash pot... It is great for holding soup and such while you drive down the road... Okay that was stupid but I still made me laugh! Lol. But no, in all seriousness, the dash pot is there in order to slow down the closing of the throttle plate...The dash pot and the throttle plate adjuster screw might possibly need to be messed with, especially if you are thoroughly cleaning your throttle body. Now you're probably going to tell me that this is a 22r... Right? Hahaha. if you have a dash pot it needs to be in place to prevent the throttle plate from closing too quickly upon releasing of the gas pedal. adjusting the dash plot or throttle stop screw will enable the throttle plate to stay open just barely when idling... You also want that to be just right. 4 crawler explains that you basically break the nut loose and then screw the adjusting screw all the way down until it touches the stop plate, then go another quarter turns and lock down the nut.

Guys I was talking about the non adjustable plastic thingy with a vacum going in the top and bottom of it.
Anyways hopefully toyotapartszone.com order will be in tomorrow! Been making some money doing odd jobs and selling some of my old stuff so this project isn't too bad!

Dakota.... Did you read the link that I posted? It goes into some detail about the function of the dash pot and how to set the adjustments on the stop screw and such. These are very critical in order to get a smooth running set up that has an actual proper TPS setting.
There are also easy test procedures for the dash pot as the basket filter at the bottom of the lower vacuum hose is only meant to slow down the return of the dash pot rod. If you remove that hose and put your finger over it after pulling back the throttle, the dash pot should stick all the way depressed. as you let go of the vacuum port on the bottom, the dash pot rod should return very quickly. When you do this with the filter on it should return quite noticeably slower. I think one of the things that happens when the dash pot doesn't work anymore is that the throttle plate slams shut without any resistance causing vapor lock or something of the sort. I think by slowing down the closing of the plate it allows the injectors to catch up with the gradual decrease of air intake. When it is not operating correctly it slams shut and more fuel than is needed is dumped which at the very end of its idling down, it can cause a dump of fuel in the cylinders that cannot be burned probably because of not enough air... Which I would imagine could cause destination in the exhaust and subsequently isn't very good for the catalytic converter.
Another thing that I've heard happening is that the dash pot filter can become completely clogged and resist the return of the throttle plate to the point where the idle stays up a little bit for too long or stays completely stuck until it is fittled with..... The piston can also become stuck in the shaft regardless of the spring. Remember, when the throttle plate is not where it's supposed to be neither is the TPS adjustment according to where you are: on a hill? At a stop? Accelerating and then shifting in between gears with constant variations of rpm? Roger who is the founder of 4 crawler recommends using silicone lubricant on the piston rod itself within the dash pot. That's what I used, Pyroil silicone lubricant by Valvoline. I'm sure you can use any type of silicone lubricant and that would be fine, that's just what I use. The lower hose with the vacuum and filter basket attached to it has to be there in order for the dash pot to operate properly... I believe the filter which is a type of valve that allows air out quickly but in slowly... Is probably available in some other form in the parts store or I would imagine at Toyota for probably around 11 to 12 dollars.
if I totally got this all wrong I apologize... But hey maybe it got you to check it out right? Hahahahaha. Take care buddy, and I look forward to seeing this all come together!

I'm def gonna check it out Mark. Wanna check everything out if possible haha. Can you clarify for me, the dashpot is the white circle correct? What is the red circle?

Okay so uh parts galore came the other day! Woohoo!
I'm gonna try to keep everything the same on this ole girl, because she runs so good now besides the timing chain chatter. So same spark plugs except there new

LCE header stud kit. I got this because I eventually plan to run headers and a 2 1/4 inch exhaust back and I feel this will help the next time I remove the header a little easier

This is the LCE intake stud kit, I figured get both of them, give my head some love haha

Oh that's a nice OEM Toyota Head gasket ya got there!

I got ten of these beautys...(head bolts) Some say to re-use, I felt better getting new ones!

One of the timing cover gaskets

The other one

Distributor O ring

PCV Valve, because I broke mine:/

PCV grommet, because I most likely will break the old one getting it off...It's really on there!

Dual stage t-stat everyone likes

The dizzy rotor...cheap part, good to replace

The dizzy cap, good to replace and cheap

FIPG for the wonderful oil pan of course!

Rear main seal, I'm thinking it's a good idea to replace it while the motor is out.

My parts pile! WOOOOO!

So at this point...I think I need a engine stand, 1/2 inch breaker bar, timing light, 19 mm 6 point socket for crankshaft bolt, and well that's all that's coming to mind but I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting. Someone please feel free to chime in if you recommend other tools or replacing other parts while in that far

Ahhhhhh, told ya I was mind melted lately.... forgot u were carbed.... at least I mentioned it as a variable, right? Hahaa.... The hose and apparatus in the white is the hose and 2way valve/w/filter that attaches to the dashpot.

Using our buddys hoist...gonna buy a stand...probably from harbor freight...decent price decent reviews...just upgrade the bolts.
So the red is the dashpot?
Sorry I keep asking about this, just my noggin isn't comprehending.
Mark, I feel like were in the same boat
Got all the wonderful parts, just gotta wait to tear into it. Looking forward to your SAS
Maybe one day waaayyyy down the road for me.
Gotta call local dealer see if they can get a few small things...
Gotta drop off carb at dealer buddy...
Project might get delayed a little more, but I know I'll get to it

Went to sears the other day and bought a 3/8 drive torque wrench(40$ was really convincing and it was craftsman) Also bought a 3 piece gasket scraper set. Luckily I had a coupon so I spent 50$ and got 10 off
Tonight I order a engine stand, safety glasses, timing light, and a tap and die set from harbor freight. I also ordered a 18 inch 1/2 drive breaker bar, a 19mm 6 point socket, a seal puller, and a feeler gauge thing from sears.
I guess it's time to patiently await the packages
It's been so rainy here lately, it has been putting me behind at work. Hard to keep up with the grass haha.

Well not a whole lot going on here besides work:/
I thought I messed up my 1990 truck with the jasper in it. It turned out that somehow the flywheel had gotten loose. I don't know if any of you have experienced this but it was a awful noise. I actually thought it was a rod knock at first. After getting another flywheel the noise is gone, also stuck another clutch in it while we were there.
I need to get on here some and read up. I plan on cleaning up the frame and engine bay while the motor is out. I'll do the frame to about where the motor compartment stops. After cleaning that part up I will have to get someone to do some welding, My frame has a hole on both sides in that area...one is as big as a finger and the other is two fingers.
Thinking I'm going to paint the motor black and red...need to look around at some engine paints. I dropped off my carb just a few days ago, so that should be ready when I'm ready. Also need to order a few more odd and ends. Work has just been so plentiful this year....someone send some hard workers my way so I can work on the yota

weird the fly wheel came loose those are the least likely thing to come loose the torque specs are huge
GOOD too hear though your still working on her whoever you get to do the welding make sure its stick welding it penetrates deeper an bonds better you'll want that on a frame also cut the rust out

Well I mean I was kinda asking for it on the flywheel...I went by a friend and revved it in neutral and it was like holy crap never heard this noise lol.
In other news....I go pop the hood on ole faithful a few days ago(I was gonna start it and drive it a few miles just so it don't fall apart
) and what do I see....a rat on my air intake.....GR! Upon later inspection I see he chewed the wires to my windshield wiper motor, my windshield wiper shooter hose and my wire for my tach that goes to the igniter. I guess there truly is always something:/ Wish he wouldn't make more work for me lol

Wow, talk about unforeseen tangents! lol... that low down dirty freaking rat! Did he get away? Hahaha. little buggers are fast! Maybe you should put a couple pellets up there for him to nibble on if he comes back! A little end of life prescription?
