Chuckar's Slow 1986 Pickup Build Thread

Well work has slowed down and the weather has cooled to about 95 degrees so I thought it was time to start my build thread so here I go.

Ok I will start with a little history on the truck 86 22RE I am the only owner I use the truck for hunting and camping. In 2001 everything under the truck was shot so I put a 4 inch Pro Comp stage II lift kit on it I didn’t use the 4 inch rear blocks I put news springs on the rear replaced all the ball joints and all new polyurethane bushings 25 MM torsion bars and 33/12.50’s BFG’s a LCE dual row timing chain conversion and H4 head lights. All was good till 2003 when it blew HG I pulled the head off and then the world fell apart lost my job so on and so on the truck has been moved 5 times AZ to CA and back to AZ again and some moves in the middle of all that but I hung on to it just couldn’t let it go. Well it 2011 and I have started working on it and I have a lot of questions for you guys and thanks in advance for all the help I know you will give. Tom

Ok I mock the block up to check the deck height the pistons were .008 tho in the hole so off to the machine shop too get .010 tho deck off, by the way I doing this engine build based on this post from Ted at EB and the FSM
http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=820891&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=all&fpart=1 ok I pick up the block put it back together to check the deck height well it looks like the shop took .013 off the deck.

Ok so I messaged the pistons they are .003 tho up I am happy with that the temp out here just hit 100 that’s my limit into the house. So I just need to take it apart and clean everything and I can do the final assembly I can’t believe this is going to come together after all this time.

Hello chuckar.. Great looking truck. Glad to see you were able to keep it all this time when it was down. I think an orginal looking truck turns the most heads. That is a great looking truck.

I am not the best person for advice on motors and guages but will try to help when I can. That truck looks clean, great job. Welcome to Yotatech.

Awesome looking truck, Since BTTF I've always liked the Smitttybuilt bumpers, get the double tube rollbar and paint it black :} But it's best to leave it the way it is :}

Thanks it was very hard to hang on to it I was out of work for a while and broke someone would knock on the door and ask me if I wanted to sell it before they could finsh what they were saying I say NO but I am glad that kept it.

Thanks Chef I just hope I can get it looking as good as yours.

drew303 how many miles were on that motor when the HG blew?
There was 195582 miles on it I think when I put the 33X12.50/15's on it I had to have it floored all the time it has 4.10 gears in it I just over work it.

And thanks for all the complaments guys this will be a little slow so hang in there with me.

Ok only 4 months later progress engine is just about ready to drop in the truck, dial the cam in yesterday set it at 3.5 degrees advanced now just putting the brackets on. Would you believe after almost 10 years of moving it around the country that Iam missing some nuts and bolts. I was going to do a step by step on the cam but here is a much better one than I could do from LCE

That is a really nice, clean looking truck! I was wondering where you got your triple gage pillar/cluster at? My 4Runner isn't a SR5 either, plus I'm in the process of swapping in a 302 V8 and have been looking for something to mount my gages in like yours so I can keep the dash stock looking. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

PS: also did you paint it to match your interior? Just wondering because my interior is the same color as yours.
