Ok, so I went out and hit all my zerks last night.... The rear was in need of a lil, and the front u-joint on the rear shaft(on the rear zerk)...took a LOT of grease. If I remember right, that 'To the rear: zerk on that u-joint by the t-case actually feeds grease into the shaft...... .am I correct? I seem to remember, last time, grease coming out of the joining parts of the shaft(out from the sleeve).... You know what? I'LL GET PICS! lol. Anyway, the point is, I greased it up, made sure everything's full, ...... and I'll take it for a spin, today, promise(mainly on the freeway, ....don't hear ANYTHING on the street.

Far as the motor.... "Just drive it" feelings, ...I hear that, and I understand in some situations that the most logical thing to do is just 'let it go'.... but, Yeah,.....I wont likely let this go(not just out of OCD or something>>>) . I just can't justify driving possibly 8 Rockers and a CAM into a irreversible/beyond repair type mess. Plus, this is my DD/long trip rolling-homie(haha) and I KNOW, it's probably not going to just 'GET BETTER', hahaha. Honest, I do understand the "Just drive it", but that's not me, ...I hope you understand. I pretty much will have to remove the head or at least Rocker Assembly to put this to bed once and for all. I will most likely try to find a way to scrape up the cabbage to replace the head and have Puntney's do my rocker assembly(Jim, over there, knows my gremlin hunting story and wants to take a look if I send it to him ) I just can't be sure if I can be without my rig just yet....YES, ONCE AGAIN, a catch 22 hahaha.

 

I understand I truly do. I know you just want to get it done. I don't think it's going to be the easy fix. It's internal (at least I think so) has to be the rockers or a valve. Start with the rockers then well pull the head. Sorry I don't have any better news for ya...

i know how you feel about the tick thing wish i could come help you figure it out but at this point whatever it is be it rockers or a valve its already messed up enough to make an audible noise and being as putting new adjusters in it made it quieter i am leaning more toward rocker issues

 

Sounds like your getting a lot of good advice from the video that's a good thing, hope you get I figured out man and that you get lucky and it's a semi easy fix.

 

What about "accidentally" running a peacock over? Would that work? I may have employed such tactics on a neighbors dog once, but it actually really was an accident, come to find out, I apparently did them a favor O.o

On a slightly related note: My motor makes all kinds of noises, often has idle issues, like sometime idling strong and other times its on the verge of stalling, and even sometimes oscillates between 1500rpm and 500...BUT, it still runs good, always fires up, and hasn't blown up yet. Though I've replaced many many U-joints since I've owned my rig (which turned out to be a loose output shaft out of the case -_-) the only vibration I get now is caused by completely worn out ball joints. Oh yeah, I have a point to this: My motor has been through hell and back, and still cranks over every time and runs better than my chevy's 350 sometimes. Just sayin, these 22RE's are tanks, and can handle almost anything. I'm all for "let it go" but if it is indeed rocker and timing issues, I'll go with lumpy and say probably should get that looked at.

I hear ya, but I have 4-1 LCE header with no 'added' ports. Mine is 87, I think even in CA it was 'extra-exhaust' apparatus exempt, lol. Or heck, maybe it didn't exist yet? haha.

Far as the LCE Cold Air thingy,.... I'm pretty sure it's tight as a drum. I've been in there twice, and it's always locked in. The bolts are all taped style allen screw/bolts, and they always 'crack' when removing them. I've tried checking for leaks there,but never found any with soapy water, etc. It's a pretty simple union of parts, ya know? Also, far as the exhaust thing.... all my lock nuts are to 14# to this day, weeks later after installing the Remflex Header Gasket. So I really think that's not an issue, and I'M SURE that something mechanical is ticking away there, ....whether there's a tiny exhaust 'tick' or not, ya know?

Anyway, I just went out and checked both, ....they're snug. Unless the machinist(grrr) seated a valve improperly, ...... I'm pretty sure it's just the rocker assembly has too much play somewhere, or one of the rear exhaust rockers are sticking-up? I'll find out, soon enough, as I'm probably pulling the sucker asap! I was trying to get it out, today, so I could ship it to Putney's, ...but just have to try to find the time, ya know?
