Been a while since someone posted in here and this thread immediately came to mind. After all those upgrades you did with the steering, you ever remember bending one of these?

45612 ARM, STEERING KNUCKLE, LH 45612-35150 1 1985.08-1989.03 LN66, RN6#, VZN6# $56.55

Might have to take a look. Another reason why I really need to learn how to weld. Because I believe I might have bent mine. lol.

I don't see an issue. That is all 1/4" plate that comes over the old frame with no single shear plane (the reason for the angled plates). The top has a gusset under the plating that goes from the top of the old frame to the top of the new one. I may weld in some tube when it is all said and done.

However, given the fact there is not a single shear plane, that whole area should be stronger than the original frame ever was.

When you cleaned up your axles and frame what did you use? I want to get under mine now that I have a house with a garage and get it cleaned up of rust. I was thinking I'd have to pull it all apart but after reading through I realise I don't

Did you use a grinder with a wire brush wheel? What paint did you use?

I want to get rid of all the rust on the frame and body as part of my build. I'd like it to look good and be as rust free as possible if I'm going to be dumping a bunch of money into it.

I remember back in the day when you, TC and I were always telling people IFS is more capable then they are... oh well. Your truck is going to be amazing. So what's the deal? You still working on this or has it taken a back seat.

This project sold. I'm now running a 99 sr5 that is fairly stock, and working on gathering parts for an FJ40 based buggy. So back to IFS for me. For now.

I sold to because I realized that I needed a reliable dd that could go wheeling on moderate trails, go hiking/camping/hunting/fishing in that was comfy and drove well at 75 mph. For rock crawling, I needed to build a buggy that did not need to do dd duties. This way, I get the best of both worlds.

I used 120 grit flap wheels and gator disks, which are for stripping paint.

I did not use any paint.

Sad to hear it's gone, however now that I'm gonna graduate in may I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Barring any complications with finding a career... I want a reliable car to go to work and I'm looking at renting warehouse space to put my 4runner. It needs a v8.... or else I need something that has one already.

LOL. LT with a bracket lift was such a disaster i don't know where to start. LOL!

Yeah, for where I want to go rock crawling, any sort of body makes no sense, and I need bigger and better parts. I wouldn't have been happy with the compromises I was trying to make on the 89.

For trail wheeling and camping and 99% of the rest of the time I'm actually out doing stuff, the 99 runner will be awesome, and comfortable too.

I didn't realize the LT/bracket setup was that bad. I know one of the guys from Blazeland runs that setup with the BL LT kit, and he likes it. I figured the Total Chaos kit would only improve the setup.

Looking forward to what you come up with in the future, though!

LOL! Thanks.

Bracket lift plus LT= bent ass frame. IMO, the two shouldn't be mixed without integrating the bracket lift into the existing frame by welding it in, and bracing the heck out of it.

Buggy is going to be tube with an FJ40 skin. I love 40's, always have, so I'm going that route.

As for this truck, yes, I've been in contact with DirtCO, and have been picking his brain.

I purchased a 3" lift from toytec this morning, and am waiting to get some measurements for a panhard, if Sonoran Steel is out of stock. New build page should be up soon.
