Okay, so we left of with the truck sounding like a freight train. Made time for it this week and got the old engine pulled. I decided instead of figuring put what is wrong with this one, ill swap in my spare. I already have my ENGNBLDR timing chain, cover, water pump and oil pump. I've also collected a couple other goodies, HIDs, thermostat, radiator hoses, new belts. I ordered new engine mounts, trans mount, full gasket kit, ect.

Thanks guys! My trail gear and autohaus orders both shipped Monday morning and should be here tomorrow. Havent heard from marlin yet... So I'll have everything to get this other spare engine installed. Woo!

The engine that came out in the pics will be built on the side as a fun project and eventually make its way in.

Okay so my build has been rushed more than I have liked. But anyways, the thing is in. Woo hoo right? Nope, I've got problem after problem, slowly sorting them out, it's super close to starting. I originally had a cel #4 and #6, then they both went away, now #6 is back. It's time to do some testing. I've checked countless things time and time again. Wiring is %100 hooked up and correct, I have the intake plenum ground for the injectors, head to firewall ground, alternator ground, block ground, body ground. I don't have a frame one. Hmmm, I'll throw one on for grins. Timing is spot on, timing marks are all aligned as fsm specifies with bright links. Distributor points to #1 cylinder, I have fuel at both ends of fuel filter, it's directional, facing appropriate way. I have fuel at the cold start injector. I do need to do a psi check and fuel rail check. I did the fuel pump jumper, I can hear it trigger. I have spark to all 4 spark plugs. I do also have a corolla AFM that I used with my intake swap. I'll swap back to my original one and see if it changes at all.

Other then that, anybody have any ideas?

 

Well phooey, the truck has my panties all waded up. I'm %90 sure I have everything right.
I've unplugged every connector, replugged, checking against FSM diagram
I have spark, nice blue color. At all 4.
I have fuel, all the way up to the fuel rail.
I've replaced every fuse, included 30,40 and 80 amp in the engine bay
TDC set to 5*
Head is set dot to arrow, sitting roughly 11:45
Bright links top and bottom
Distributor installed and points at plug #1
Grounds-block to firewall, alternator to block, body to battery, block to battery, injectors to intake manifold.
I swapped my celica AFM back to the stock AFM.

I'm out of ideas, I got the tools to check compression today, should have that done in the morning...

 

Sounds like you have all of your bases covered on the Firing Side. I think your problem is on the Fuel Side. In my experience, I have never had a bad ECM so I wouldnt be concerned with it at this time. You didnt by chance fill your injectors full of rust when moving the fuel line did you? I would pull an injector and see that the screen is clear.

I seen Mark mention that you can pull a plug and stick a paper towel in and see if it smells like fuel after cranking the engine. I have been wanting to try this to see if an injector is firing but just learned that trick so havent got to check it out yet.

Here is the steps I went thru for my Non Firing Fuel injectors. Mine turned out to be the crimps in the wiring harness were really corroded. It will pass a resistance check but still not have enough juice to fire the injector. Man this sounds so familiar (DeJa Vu). I don't know if you check yet, check the COR on the passenger kick panel side.

 

Well long story short, 1st motor had bad compression. So I got my spare motor, swapped everything onto it. I was having problems with my #1 injector. While pulling my harness back out, I checked my connector, the lead for one clip was pushed back inside the housing. Got that connector repaired, hooked it all back up, viola, run like a champ!

I also picked up a rear 4:10 diff with a Aussie locker, got that installed.
Should be installing my new rear springs, shackles and u bolt flip kit.

Got the new leaf springs, shackles, and u bolt flip kit installed. I need to make my shock mounts still. I had to replace some of the exhaust studs on the head today. A couple were stripped out/oversized. I went ahead and heilcoiled those 2 with m10x1.25 for now. I'll go in and change them all out later. I also got my new HID's in and my hella 500 mounted on the bumper.

I picked up a home made header back off a 83 pickup with brand new cat and muffler. Installing that will be tomorrow's project. It looks close to the same length and bends. We'll see in the AM.
I also picked up a dual case crossmember with a built on tcase brake. cant figure out who makes it. Not sure if I'm going to run it or not yet.
Oh, and for the time being, my diff drop showed up as well. So I'll get those in and see what I can do with this IFS.

Okay, got the diff drop installed. CV angle looks much better. The exhaust bolted straight up and all the bends from the 83 worked out quite well, a couple new hangers and it was done. I also made a spark plug wire holder. Looks cleaner and keeps them off the header.

I then started having problems with my fueling. Started looking into and found that my #1 injector lead wasn't making contact. So I took the connector apart and fixed what's left. I'm due for new connectors.

As you can see, the corner of my Hellas are covered by the front bumper hoop, I plan on ordering a set of the HIDS in a smaller size. I believe it's a 4"?

 

What's up kid! Why not put a tab in the center and slappin a 10 inch Lightforce or something of the sort of men put your 5 inch on each side with two more little tabs? Or not... Hahahaha

 

Well guys, not much has changed to the truck itself. I did pick up my motor swap last night. The fun begins next week when the parts show up!
