it actually doesnt look too bad... but to each their own...
just watch out... with MaK924rnr's rig, the rear caps were such a tight fit that after he torqued down his rims and drove for a cuople months, taking them off the rear we had to pry them off with screwdrivers... its like they were super glued on...

OCD hard at work this morning.

doing an "apples to apples" shopping trip here with Toyota parts sites......namely Toyota Parts sales / Toyota parts zone and the local dealer motorworld (ugh)

side by side pricing on the following:

ENGINE OVERHAUL GASKET
CAMSHAFT HOUSING PLUGS (2)
EXHAUST NUTS (3 for me)
PCV VALVE
FRONT OIL SEAL
ENGINE MOUNT NUTS(4)
ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS(4)
THERMOSTAT
THERMOSTAT GASKET

Grand totals:
Toyota Parts ZONE (delivered to my door) $384.15
Toyota Parts Sales(delivered to my door) $402.53
Motorworld (I pick up there) $487.47

have a 2nd local Toyota dealer and possibly a 3rd source for Toyota parts that i will contact for more pricing. Shameful that the local place is $100+ more.

I will say that Toyota Parts Zone has a 5% Holiday Discount which brought the price down $18.29........so when you remove that discount it's $402.44......or 9cents cheaper.

ummm....Joe (my Joe)......just ordered your headers.

now we have to think up a way for us to not get killed by mommy.

I've campaigned for a while about them and how you "needed" them and explained and showed her the crossover pipe and explained about "cooking valves" to which the reply was "uh-huh....".

killer deal $559.42 at our door....new, versus $619.90 @ Summit. the difference was a 10% coupon from EBAY that expires tomorrow at midnight.....otherwise the difference between the 2 places was going to be like $5.

God help us.

Doug Thorley 505c.

the elimination of the dreaded "crossover" pipe is what's of the utmost importance......I contemplated fabbing a block-off plate and fabbing some sort of pipes to have them meet below the motor and pretty much said that it wasn't going to be worth the money or effort and presumed aggravation to try to do that.

also the idea of "opening up" the exhaust portion of this truck to maybe gain a few grunts out of it as well as maybe a deeper exhaust tone, pretty much won us over too.

From: Bryan Tx,
Congradulations guys, and good luck with the wife! Those DT headers should provided years of trouble free service and from what I have heard headers are the single best thing you can to to increase performance on a 3.0.

soooooo.....

I have no clue about clutches.....how to install them, check them or anything else except how to use them.

going for the "while the motor is out , we should __________" thing, I'm very likely gonna put a new one in so that will be another gremlin eliminated down the road.

is this good???

From: Bryan Tx,
Very good, I would either use that Marlin clutch or an OE Aisin

says it's more heavy duty over the OEM....I guess intended for crawling and stuff....but same would apply for a kid new to using a clutch, I presume....hahaha

OEM Aisin. Nothing against Marlin, but any HD clutches with more clamping force get old real quick driving them in stop/start traffic. I HATED the last one in Barney. There is considerable difference in the physical force required by your leg to actuate the HD compared to the stock Aisin. I had an 84 with HD and 85 with stock Aisin, both on 35s and the 84 was a chore to drive/shift in traffic and wore my knee out.

Wabbit's got a point, even though our clutches are hydraulic even the HD/high clamp clutches are harder to push the pedal down.

I would just suggest a stock AISIN as well or the Perfection (zoom) one from advanced auto. So far so good with mine, and you've seen me beat on mine already. hehe.

Also would like to add, with a higher clamping one it can be tricky to actually get them to slip when you need to, ie from a dead stop. Probably not the best for someone new to start off with.

Of course my only experience with a higher clamping force clutch is a 4 puck carbonic disc sprung hub stage 3 1/2 clutch that I had in my Elantra when I was racing it. That thing was hard as hell to get to slip from a stop.

and those replies are why i posted that question.

i'm gonna presume that the HD clutch is made for the off-road beatings that this thing will likely never, or seldom, see.

I like the one I picked up from Advanced...works quite well.

As for the install it's not bad at all. I did mine in the truck in a few hours. With you having the motor out it'll be a breeze, nuttin to fret about.
