NICE! I loved that paint that I used on the Valve cover and intake on mine. It bakes itself on with the engine heat, .....I've been pretty abusive in there, fishing around for my 'issue', ...and it hasn't chipped yet! lol.

Looking great, Jerry!

BEFORE...

AFTER...

and a different pic

Not really sure what more we will be doing today.....the little guy is sick....so that may be all the cleaning we do for today.

parts are laid out in the sunshine baking to dry, then to be painted. Otherwise, just doing scraping and such.

back home now....all is well after a run to the doctor.

bought more paint.

Joe bought an ammo box....have to hit up YOTAROB to see the size he used.....the one Joe bought is the right width (and height if we were to keep stock height), but i would rather find one a wee bit longer.

Looks like you really lucked out. High compression and looks to be a new belt replacement. May just be a bad oil leak, but I know you will get it. That is a nice looking 4runner. Im really wanting one myself. Im going to be following along. Is 8T8 getting a yellow fan? j/k

OK.....i think we decided the engine needs to be pulled.

of course, me being me, i have to read up on all this stuff.....oh, and get a stand and find a puller.

problems i see are:

exhaust.....apparently the crossover pipe is evil.......that needs to be undone or does IT get undone from the pipe to the exhaust system

Electrical.....i've heard pulling it from the ECU is better than the alternative....looking at it, i think i'd rather pull the wire loom from on top of the engine being that the majority of the wiring is for the injectors.

Cooling.....looks like we've got that mostly handled already

transmission......no clue

this can and will be a Pandora's box of issues just to do this as a newb....or semi-newb

XXXTREME....i'm gonna need your expertise for all this....along with everyone else.

i can't see buttoning this thing up "good enough" because that's not how i am....so we will do a complete job.....albeit a slow one.....hopefully not as slow as mine.

what makes you think the engine needs pulled. I knew I shoulda kept that engine stand and cherry picker. Look on CL Jerry, they are all over the place. I bought an engine stand brand new from harbor freight. But that was when thy were on sale. But yeah I will help you pull it.

it's a total oily mess....REAL BAD! won't be happy unless i clean that all up. and truthfully, because i dont know what has been done to this thing, i think i want to pull the heads anyway and do what i can do and be done with it once.

the oil probably is from leaky covers....but as OCD as i am, i NEED to clean it.

Oven cleaner, get the low vapor stuff, spray on everything, let sit, then hose off. just hose off in an area were you do not mind all that crap going.

I could have cleaned my 22re without pulling it, etc.(yet I'm glad I pulled it,....was about to explode, lol)....but I imagine your 6 is a BIT MORE TRICKY on the 'clean in place' format, eh?

Best wishes, Jerry... if you're feeling you should just go through it all now....what's wrong with that, eh? Sometimes it's not just OCD.....at times, IT CAN BE PRACTICAL-long term logic! lol.

Watching!

Ya those 6's don't leave much room to mover about. Just getting to the plugs is a hassle.

This is just me thinking out loud again, but so long as you're pulling it, could you install a metal head gasket set? Are they even available for the 3VZE? I've always wondered how reliable an engine it would be with a MHG. Would that make it, dare I say, good?
