Thanks!!! wish my body was as rust free as yours. The auto is the first ive owned after many manuals and i think the manuals are far superior but as long as your not brutal on the autos they do fine. Mine shifts nice and tight and i can smoke my cigar with my right hand and steer with my left and not have to shift.

Good luck on your tranny swap and engine as well.

You can manhandle it around though. As long as you can control that transfer case and you've drained the fluid from both. Ask me how I know... I agree though. I suppose dry weight is 100lbs-ish. You know, somewhere between 0 and 300 in the weight department.

Edit:

Actually it's probably more like 160-170 ish dry since I just barely can't bench it up into it's hole. I can get it around though, and I'm not scared it'll kill me if I pull it out. Autos though... They frighten me a bit.

Well guys, got the motor tore down today to really get a good check on everything and it was good mostly
#2 rod is shot its cracked all the way through miracle it didn't break
ruined crankshaft
on the good note though piston walls look great, no scoring scratches, or ridge around the top

looks like its gonna be a pain wish i had another motor to build

Very nice runner. Never see on that clean around here!

That's too bad the rod is trashed. However you did get lucky that it didn't go through the block or grenade the whole bottom end.

Uh oh. Ruined crankshaft is no bueno. Seems like you said when I saw you that the P.O. claimed it was rebuilt? He didn't happen to mention the build was done in a sandbox did he? By middle schoolers? hahaha That's just if memory serves, which it often doesn't. What's the mileage on it?

It only has 186,000 on it but the po let the front crank seal leak and didnt check the oil
you can actually pull the rod by hand and make the crack bigger almost went kaboom!!!

Previous owner had the head and chain replaced about ten thousand before low oil pressure destroyed a nice engine
Hopefully I can get it to the machine shop end of the week and let him do some diagnosis on whether he thinks it should be bored or if he can just hone it.

Who lets a leaking front crank seal go so far that it lets the oil level get so low it does that!? GEEZ!!

That is a clean looking runner. Some of the things that POs do to them makes you wonder. Looking good.

Glad you got it, and touching on your ruined crank, I know a fellow with 95ish pickup that leaked like a pig out that front main like yours and he claims it was by accident that it ran out of oil and seized. It's a bummer to meet people like that and even more of a bummer when they won't sell you the truck! hahaha. It's really not hard to take care of these engines. Check the oil, coolant, and if it sounds funny, fix it. Letting it get bad is no good.
