Take it apart at follow these instructions:

http://forum.ih8mud.com/79-95-toyota...b-rebuild.html

It has some good pictures to follow. When I couldn't get my hubs working properly, that's what I did, and now I haven't had any more problems.

I got unsubscribed for some reason, weird. anyway glad to hear you got an idea of what the problem might be, i ran into the dame problem on a land cruiser solid axel that we ran asian hubs on, If you take the RED center piece be carefull because there is a little ball bearing in there that likes to get lost if you don't know its there. as for teying to get it unlocked try twisting the keeper washer around maybe the spring is caught around it these things are picky ive rebuilt four of them. idk, thats all i got though

that maybe somthing you want to look into is getting your front end rebuilt unless your set on an sas then i would no bother. its not too difficult and the kit to do it is like a $100 both sides included from toyota.

If you click on the link i put up, you'll see two springs that could be giving you problems, most likely the smaller one in post #3, that's where most people i've talked to have trouble.

well me and desertRunner3.4L on here went muddin today! it was awesome except the radiator got caked with mud and my truck overheated once. then the starter got caked or something and didnt want to work. but i got home, washed the engine bay out like usual, and everything worked fine again. then about a half hour later i go to drive my truck and it baarreely starts and it starts doing this-

any ideas on what could cause this?

check your plugs wires rotor cap all Plugs are the important ones. Last time i went mudding i ended up with fouled plugs (don't know why but sounded just like yours)the plugs were new before i went so even if you just replaced them check. . Worse case scenario since you over heated could be the head gasket but knock out the small stuff first. Check the coolant level and the rest of the fluids as well.

ok i will definitely check those out. maan i hope its not the headgasket! coolant was low after it overheated but i bought some at the gas station right next to where we were mudding and filled it up. also, i think my t-stat is bad because it would get really hot, then if i turned the heat up and drove a little bit at low rpms, it would drop way down to too cold.

Thermostat

22re?

Thermostats are super super easy to replace if it's the 22re. I just did mine the other day. The hose that comes from the radiator to the block goes to a metal pipe that angles down towards the block. Undo the two bolts and the thermostat is literally right there pull the old one out and drop in the new one and bolt it back up. If it isn't a 22re I don't think it's much more complicated. Think it cost me $10 for the thermostat.

Check you're air filter and plugs I once went mudding and clogged my air filter so bad the truck would nearly run and my plugs fouled out as well so definetly check those two things

oh and it sat all night, and it drove PERFECTLY for 10 miles this morning, but as soon as i got to school it started acting up again. letting it sit makes it better.
