I was looking on the Mitchell OnDemand program at school the other day on how to drop the oil pan because my gasket is shot.

It said you ave to remove the front diff cross member, lower the diff, and then drop the pan. With everything else that has to come out to do so it estimated, I think, 4.5 hrs. for R&R.

Well in an hour I dropped the entire diff today, Perhaps I will find my socket tomorrow, Thanks for the info though I might end up paying a shop to finish this, because I have no clue where to even start with timing >.>, I know you set the engine to top dead center, and the cap and rotor to the number one firing position but the part with the cams is where I get lost :x

Well I guess Ill just keep researching the timing thing, I have stuff to do for now until the timing becomes more of an issue, Dare44 showed me a thread on pirate that looks exactly like the 4runner I want to build so I have some basis now im not just crazy...

I have no idea what gearing it is, I also won't be selling it for quite some time, a couple months or so, I need to buy the wabfab kit and then I can sell the axle with the rebuild kit.

Dropped my oil pan to get that socket today, pictures of dropping the diff as well, I am painting my oil pan tomorrow so we will see how that comes out

As you can see in the pictures the coolant is all in the oil from the blown head gasket... Im actually glad I had to drop the oil pan... probably good to clean it all out.

Cam arrows go straight up...you will see them. Crank has mark that aligns with a mark on oil pump. Search this site for photos.

Hope the blown gasket, and coolant, did not trash any bearings like it did to my 3.0. Did you run engine before tear down? Check each piston to make sure none have been hitting the head. When rod bearings go, the slack allows the pistons to slap the head. Unfortunate pi$$ poor design by toyota, again. The stupid main cradle makes checking any of the bearings impossible. Another stupid design by Toyota. I strongly recommend replacing the oil pump now. Can't do it later without dropping the pan, another stupid toyota design.

Good job with the work so far....you are hard core.

hmm how hard is the oil pump install... scratch that Ill do some searching thanks for the advice I really appreciate it and thanks, I am hoping to do a lot more work then I have listed really, because I am looking at a lot of interior mods as well but those can be done at my house without the use of the shop so they just aren't listed yet
Edit: and yes I found the culprit socket!

You should strain what comes out of the pan through some window screen material to see what you catch. I see a lot of reflective surfaces in your photos of the pan. I would hate, and you would too, to find out that the bottom end is bad after engine reassembly and initial firing. Nothing worse than doing it twice. If you got the time an a few bucks, take that block to a shop, let them clean it and you may be able to knurl the pistons, turn the crank and install some Hastings iron rings and call it an overhaul. I've done it for years with excellent results when a shop does the work.

Heres the pictures of the painted grill, Toyota and V-6 are taped up I am deciding whether to leave them chrome, which would make them the only chrome on the truck, or to paint them white to continue the color scheme. Probably decide weeks from now on that.

Looks good!

What tires and size do you plan on running after your done?

After my lift i just plan on getting some truxus, $136 a tire for 33's.
Seems like a good deal to me!
