2x2runner '88 4 runner build
Hey guys/gals, just joined last week and figured id throw this up here.
I got a '88 4 Runner off Kijiji with a 22RE in it, manual transmission, welded rear diff, 33" tires, 4"lift, barely any exhaust, and a busted front diff. When I got it home i realized there was a significant leak coming from the front and found a horrible oil pan. The previous owner had added about 5lbs of silicone and another 5lbs of bubble gum welds.
Truck came with a new front diff in the trunk so first thing was to install that. While I was there I figured i'd fix the oil pan with the diff removed. Upon removal I found what was left of the timing chain guide in the oil pan. Luckily the previous owner had just dropped it down there while replacing the guides and was too lazy to get to the pan. I buffed the pan and brazed all the pinholes. I then coated it twice with primer and 3 coats of black.
The exhaust had broken numerous times and had been fixed in the field I assume. The exhaust had broken just below the flange at the manifold. I removed the entire exhaust, removed a broken cat, ground down the flange and rewelded the exhaust and reinstalled. Now since I did that I can now hear how all the front idler bearings need replacement. That'll have to wait until the spring.
