picked up my 4th toyota about a month ago. its an 91 ext 3.0 5 speed with 150k 4inch procomp stage 2 lift. the PO rebuilt the heads because of a burnt valve so head gaskets are fresh. i plan to re gear with 4:88s lock the front and rear. add some off road lights, add some armor, no plans to sas it in the near future but who knows what can happen.


ive got a few parts laying around that need to be installed
63in chevy springs with skys off road hangers and shackles.
trail gear style sliders
factory 4:88 front diff
7.5in locker aussie or lockright not to sure though
the best part about all these parts is i havent spent more than 100 bucks on any of them!



i got the truck with a flatbed and it was just kind of awkward and short so i picked up a bed that was beat up and red so it was perfect canidate for a bob. i thought 10 inches was a good amount.





with the 10inch bob my frame stuck out about 2 inches.i plan on adding some square tubing for a bumper.

as i was starting to tack the bed together my 20 year old craftsman arc welder broke down so the bed was bolted together on the top with some 1in flat steel on the top. my brother picked up a new miller welder so now the project is back underway.

thanks i think ten is good if you dont want it to look to out of place.. personally i would do more i just didnt want the chevy springs sticking to far out.

i really wanna double bob it, and move the axle as far foward as possible and make the bed look like the tacoma quad cabs
but thats for the future

Dude awesome job on the bob. Your gonna love the 63s! That flat bed looks really nice , but you nailed it , it looked awkward.

somewhat finished my bed bob a few days ago. still gotta paint it. also removed my sway bar and got some ifs flex aha
before swaybar was taken off

Yea,I was talking to RMP8080 about bobbing my bed,but was worried about my 63s sticking out.Could you post a pic of the rear where your frame sticks out so I can see what it looks like?

I'm getting ready do this. I'm curious did you measure from the front mount to locate the new mount or use the plumb bob to the pin? I remember seeing it posted both ways. Wasn't sure what would be the best.

well here was my method. plum bobbed the pin. then removed the spring and bolted the chevy spring on and mounted the hangers, then lowered the truck so it was under load. and made sure the wheel was centered then tacked them in place drove around the block to make sure it drove straight and didnt crap walk.
then for the other side i measured the distance between the two front hangers and tacked the other side according to that distance..

probably not the best way to do it but it worked for me and i didnt trust myself to do the usual way. but it worked

Thanks for the reply. That sounds like a good idea. I actually ended up putting a used set of stock springs on my truck last year just to have a second reference point when I do the chevy swap. My springs were shot, negative arch and 2 broken on the drivers side. I didn't feel comfortable just measuring off of the front mount.
With being able to double check now with the plum bob and your post(with picks) to give me a general Idea of lift height with that shackle and front mount. I'm ordering the parts next week. If I get that much height with my 63's I think it will match the SAS and save on their rear package.
