ZeeGee's 1984 Pickup Build w/ videos

Ok folks so I'm far from new to Toyota trucks and the forums associated with them so here it goes. I've got a 1984 Toyota Pickup SR5 with the 22R engine and I'm converting the engine to a 22RE and planning to do a full build on the truck, these have always been my favorite trucks and I've always wanted to build one so now I am. Stick around for the fun!

I tried to convert an 84 motor to injection. The fuel injection intake will not bolt to the 84 head. Also no place for a Knock Sensor and a fuel filter bracket. Those can be bypassed I am guessing. Some machine work might could get the bolt holes done on the head to make the fuel injection intake to work but I am not sure on that. I have pics in on one of my threads somewhere I could find if you need to see what I am talking about.

Here is where I converted a carb to injection. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/

Some of the problems I see such as your ignition is easily fixed. Welcome to Yotatech and looking forward to your build.

There's actually already a video in the works I'm just editing it and getting it ready to upload, but the manifold and knock sensor are already swapped to the 84 engine, and the holes are there for the bracket to bolt to the block. I've swapped one wiring harness over and I'm in the process of swapping the other. Once I've got the wiring harness' all re ran in the cab/engine bay and the interior put back together I'll drop the fuel tanks and swap them over.

Also I have tons of parts I'm looking to sell or trade so if you need anything pm me. The most notable item is an Offenhauser dual port manifold for a 4barrel that came off the 22r.

That's not an 84 engine in your video so maybe that's why you have the knock sensor hole.

How can you tell it isn't an 84 engine? Because there is a hole there?

Valve covers on 81-84 22rs are more curvy and 85-95 are boxy. Yours looks pretty square to me. Mmmaybe you could identify your block by a number on it? In case you want to know exactly what year model engine you have.

Pretty important to know because you can't mix 84 and 85 22r parts. Or 83 and 86. And so forth. I'm pretty sure all parts you could order for 85-95 are the same, like the timing chain kits, but you should research that.

Update, the conversion was successful and I got it running properly around November when I had time to get back to it. I also managed to get the bed bobbed and mostly welded back up and ready to be painted. However, I found out I was deploying so I put it on the back burner and had plans to wheel it and build it as I had the time to do so once I got back. But with most things something came up, the woman in my life decided she was ready to have her own rig and since I've got a nice comfortable jeep that I can put in most places I want to go I figured I would sell the pickup and get her something she could learn in and we could build together. So after selling the pickup for a decent profit I got a great deal on a 95 4runner and we got it parked beside the house and pulled the engine to do a full gasket set with oil pump, water pump, and timing belt. So when I get back next month I'm going to spend a weekend getting her ready for the trails. It won't be anything extreme but for those interested in watching a build on it we will do a thread for it over in the appropriate section.
