I was flipping through your thread, and saw some pics of your short block. Did you get that at APR in Colorado Springs? We picked one up last week for my dads 85.

Yeah, bought it 4.5 years ago. Only big complant I have about it they overground the crank and the rear main seal doesn't seal against the crank so it leaks oil.

It's been fine other than that. Price was decent. I also bought a timing cover from them for $50 while I was picking up the motor.

Thats good to hear, was a very good price. It was about the same as rebuilding it, but saved us the time of the assembly and machine time.

Hundreds of thousands of 22RE's are single row timing chains with no issues. I don't see running a single row with an aftermarket cam a big deal

The new tailgate looks great, a lot better than the old smashed up 4Runner tailgate you had! Any specific plans for a back bumper yet?

I really like the pink and purple , but have you decided on any other color to paint it?

Just remember, says "I pity the fool who dosen't paint their 4Runner Pink and Purple!"

I've got an idea for a rear bumper but I want to get the sheetmetal & bodywork cleaned up before I weld one on solid. I'm still kinda thinking of making a rear swing down tire carrier just to carry a spare tire if I'm driving it to the trail. I'd take it off for trails like BV Carnage.

As much as I'd like to paint it pink & purple, it's going to end up orange

Once again work, I follow this one closely, but..What if you got a swing "out" instead of a swing down, and just had it able to slide right of the pin/hinge?? I have been thinking about this for a while now, or are you partial to the swing down??

Orange will look good! I just bought everything I need to build a swing down carrier, along with a little more body protection. I plan to get started in the next week or two.

The tire carrier is going to have to be beefy enough to carry a 40" tire. I will only carry a 35" spare but if I need to swap to the spare, the messed up one will have to go on the carrier. Having it swing down spreads the load of a tire that big onto 2 solid hinge points rather than one hinge pin.

I also like the way swing down tire carriers look

I can't wait to see what you come up with. I've got an idea for mine but we'll see if it actually gets built the way I'm envisioning it.

What other kind of body protection? Enough to drop BV Carnage during the Jambo

I hope you can find a 40" spare! For the trail it would work but I would hate the idea of driving on the road with one 40" and one 35". I think it could lead to trashing other tires and other possible issues.

That's the plan! ...

Maybe not, the last time I did that this happened!

This is what I'm planning

I don't have much to update since I haven't gotten a chance to work on the 4Runner. I am almost done with my OBA system using the stock AC compressor. I still need to wire in a power wire, clutch switch, and a output air line from the tank to a quick coupler. I also changed out a rear U-joint that was getting pretty rough & loud on the road.

I also have bought a couple of goodies for it as well. I bought a new Warn M8000 with a wireless remote (isn't install yet), Longfield 5th stud trunion bolt upgrade (not yet installed), Longfield lifetime knuckle wiper seals (not yet installed), new trunion bearings, corner marker lights, and a 22RE to GM alt bracket.

I've got a HUGE list of stuff that I want to get done (actually was hoping to get it done this past winter but didn't ). I hope to make progress with my list this May & June.

Your Rig is coming along nicely!!

Do you have a write up on the AC compressor conversion? I'd like to do this conversion as well.

the rear carrier is great for room inside the truck, but it sucks driving. Even with just a 35 on mine the rear visiblity sucks. I am gonna install dual back up cameras on each rear corner

Dirtco: your design reminds me of the one that guy with the gunmetal grey 4runner in 4WDTO mag did a while ago.
