Chapter 2: Going backwards.

Well after having this truck for as long as I have and after beating the hell out of it for the last few years I think its time for some revision of my plans for blue. I wanted to have the sweet yota crawler half buggy rig at one point and now I feel I'm growing out of that phase. Time to clean 'er up!

My plan is to get all my body lines right again and no more dents. I want good clean paint and a strait body again. Wanting a clean classic Toyota everyone will aweee at.

Then this summer i'll be converting it into Overland mode. I plan on getting a topper for it and using the bed for a sleeping space when out camping.

Pics of the 2wd I bought for 350$ to donate the cab and box from.

Nice, seems like alot of folks are re-evaluating/repurposing their builds, or starting new ones, lol. Can't wait to see the rebuild!

Indeed. I'm just not seeing enough classic well taken care of rigs out there anymore. I feel bad for beating mine as bad as I have and am hoping to redeem myself. Sometimes you realize that you'll never get another chance at owning a truck like the one you have and that maybe you should try to make it last in every way shape and form.

I'm excited to see where this build takes my mini truck. Hoping to put on some miles in July since I'll be heading over to Cali with it. Plan is to go down to Pismo Beach for the 4th of July and to do the Rubicon with some friends at the end of that week. Hopefully everything works out!

Thanks....And yeah they never are truly done. I used to think this would just be a pile of tubes by the time I was getting close to done but now I'm switching directions and I think its for the better.

Pics of damage

Crappy box is finally done for. Cab is scratched and dented. Time for new life.

Good luck on the body swap! Are you going to be doing any work on the new body before you put it on?

Yeah the way I see it i'll have a few months to prep it. The stripping process begins soon because I'm trying to get the bed on asap so I can do some camping out of the back.. The bed will need the most work so I'm going to run it for the time being and once I have the cab prepped ill pull the bed.

Not sure what the final outcome will be. If I decide to keep it cheap it'll be desert tan, if I buy real paint probably a super dark blue or purple. Time will tell

Making some progress here and there. Bed has been on but I'm waiting to put the topper on permanently until I get it bed lined and the rest of my everything painted.

I did manage to sneak the topper on for a lock mock up. Lets just say this thing is a little bigger than I anticipated. I'm thinking a roof rack or small 30in light bar would look good on the front.

Been working on the truck here and there. Bed lined, and rebuilding the front axle after realizing I had two knuckle studs snapped off on the passenger side. Planning on moving forward with the cab swap also. My drivers side floor is rusted through and I wanted a clean body anyway. Tough part will be that my truck is efi and the 2wd is carb'd. Few holes to drill and a dash and wiring harness to pull. No biggy right? Ha!

Forgot to mention I pulled the axle because my spring bushings and shackle bushings were shot so I'm replacing them as well.

Got some new 35x12.5r15 Copper Stt Pros. Really impressed with them. Took the topper off for the next week or so due to Kool Deadwood Nites and I'm planning on going real wheeling with it on Sunday for one of the last times. I'll be sure to post up some pics.

Break in on the rocks went well. Truck held up and I didn't break anything. Went out with three other Toyotas which is rare up here. Truck went anywhere I pointed it.
