Sam24th's 84 Darkside build

Unfortunately I did not think about it until after cutting the door and realizing I cut really close to the door latch. If you look closely in the picture you can see the hole in the side of the door at the arm rest area. Basically I cut up the latch assembly so it would fit and cut a hole into the door so I can push the mech down and unlatch it. It latches just like it should, just a bit of a flaw in designing but, it works fine so no regrets there.

Ok got the front bar hooked up and tested it out. This thing is wicked bright. Here are some comparison pics.
First one: HIDs no lightbar just HIDs on lowbeam.
Second one: Lightbar only No other lights.

So its been a long time since Ive done an update on my rig here. Been pretty busy with school and classes. But I finally got the shackles installed a few weeks ago. So she sits leveled now. I also started on a new rear bumper design. Any thoughts?

Well been really busy with school and everything as of lately especially with finals coming up. But I got bored today and tired of studying so I decided to make something with my new Hobart welder and some scrap I had laying around. Since I will be making a rack/basket for the rear I wanted to make a little step ladder so my GF could reach up. So after a lil dicking around I came up with this: Also found a bit of time to finish up my half doors for good now.

Its been quite some time since Ive updated this but Ive made a few new changes. I recently built a new roofrack for it, mounted more lights uptop, relocated some switches. Also began on the rear bumper, and added sliders. I also recently took it on a trip to URE NF for Memorial day weekend. You can read about it here:

Here are a couple pics of it recently though:

So a bit of an update: My expo build is steadily moving along again. Yesterday I just picked up a new Tcase with 4.7:1 ratio in it to swap in place of the factory 2.3:1 ratio. Its a top shifted Tcase and came with Twin sticks. Just gotta find some time to install it when I am free. Detailed write up for the install coming soon. I will be swapping out my forward shift for the top shift so the center console will have to be cut up a bit I think. No biggy though since I planned on building my own console with lockbox for when I drive with the half doors.
Also recently picked up a new vinyl cutter. I can finally cut my own decals and banners. So one of the first things I did was remove the bedside TRD stickers and made black ones of a design I liked.

So I took my pickup out to URE about 2 weeks ago for a shakedown run and to test out my newly installed Tcase. The Tcase did amazing and I love the 4.7 gears in it. I really should have posted these pictures up about 2 weeks ago, but Ive been swamped with school work lately. Anyhow I figured its about time I posted some of these pics up. All the pictures were taken at or near URE national forest. A few of them were taken on private lands that the group I was riding with were given permission to go on.

Hey Sam, love your truck. I have seen it around town. Don't think you live too far from me. I like your half doors and roof rack a lot. I would be interested in fashioning up some half doors for my '89.

Thank man! Just briefly went through some of your pics. I have definitely seen your truck running around Charlotte, primarily the Matthews area around Monroe RD/Sardis RD. I love the soft top that is on it. I live around Providence RD. I haven't been driving my pickup much lately since getting my 89 4runner, but I still drive it occasionally (about 2-3 times a week). If you ever need some help with the truck or making some half doors hit me up, always looking for new people to hang out with. Maybe we can go wheeling sometime, actually doing a URE trip tomorrow.

Welp went wheeling on Friday with a bunch of guys from UNCC. All of them had jeeps and didnt believe I wheeled my Toyota and thought it was a mall crawler. Boy did I prove them wrong. Mind you 4, of the 5 jeeps that wheeled with me broke down on the trail that we took pictures on. The only trucks that made it out unscathed was My yota and the red TJ. I also took muddiest and hardest lines on the trails. Needless to say I proved them wrong and am quite proud of what my truck did.

Got more goodies from the brown santa today! Started tearing into the rear axle today to install my new 5.29 rear. Also began welding on my rear diff guard. Tomorrows plan is to get my front diff guard welded on and then fill up the rear diff, bleed the brakes and go for a test drive. Trying to get everything installed by Sunday for a URE trip with Dorton and Andy.
