Nice welds! That thing looks super strong already. Reminds me of a currie axle! Haha
Your probably already going to do this, but I'd put some armor underneath the housing also.
RustEd asked how my T4R has been doing so heres a little update. It acted up earlier this month. The hydro throw out bearing took a dump again so I called up and got another rebuild kit and rebuilt it. this time it appears that it may have been my fault that it prematurely malfunctioned. I had a spacer in-between the transmission and the bearing and it was slightly crooked causing the throw out bearing to engage unequally and tearing one of the seals which left me with no clutch. Luckily I was close to home and not out wheeling. Tonight I installed some new plugs, wires,a rotor, and a cap and it runs much better. I was experiencing a stutter when the engine was lugging like when I was pulling a hill or under heavy acceleration. After switching all of that out the problem went away, which made me really happy. Now that I'm not doing seasonal fire anymore and working for the local Fire Department here in Elko I hope to make a lot more progress on my build and get out and use the thing. I have a ton of parts, pieces, and ideas for it, its just been time holding me back.
Glad you were able to get the clutch fixed, and it didnt leave you stranded out in the desert somewhere, lol. That will be cool that you will have time to start working on the 4runner again.
There's been alot of fires up and around our area, closest one was about 10 miles from our house. It's kinda scary because we're surrounded by woods. My job is really close to the Columbia River (Lake Roosevelt) we could watch the helicopters come down and dip water out of the lake, it was pretty cool, makes me miss fighting wildfires, I did it for one season for a private contractor back in 2002.
Well replaced all the wires, plugs, new cap and rotor and redid my exhaust. New exhaust is 2 2 1/2" into 1 3 1/2" outlet Magnaflow, little quieter than I was shooting for but I like it, all in all I think quieter is better long term. The tune up solved my stuttering issue I was having and now runs much better. Haven't done the fuel calculations yet but I'm thinking it's about 2mpg better based off my last tank. Picked up my canoe from where it was stored and drove home hitting 80 on the interstate no problem.
Finally installed my wider rear axle, and Explorer leaf springs. Waiting till Monday to get an extended brake line made and hopefully mount some shock on the back of this thing.
Looking good, I like the rear truss you put on the new axel. The exhaust turned out nice too! I need to re-do my exhaust and was thinking of doing the same thing (2 inlets with one pipe coming out) it's kinda of hard to route the exhaust any other way with the gas tank taking up all the space on the passenger side, lol. Have you ran into any clearance issues with the shackle making contact with your exhaust when your 4wheelin?

Not yet since I'm still waiting on shock tabs and extended brake lines before I can take it out and get it all flexy. But the way it is currently doesn't look like there should be any interference.
I can't pass on projects. I bought another 4Runner. Same people that had my 85. Got it to our "storage" property, threw a battery in it, new fuel pump and what do you know, the 4Runner that "didn't run" runs. I think the power steering pump and it has no rear driveline but I was able to throw it in 4hi and drive it. It held 75mph off-road with the a/c on. Ended up paying $650 for it. Bought the cheapest fuel pump I could find online so now I'm into this 94 about $690. Here's some photos.
Long term plan for Ol Blue is 3.4L swap, Total Chaos 4x4 long travel, deavers in the rear along with a T-100 rear axle. Will probably also do a dual T-case as well.

Haven't updated this in a long time. Most of it is still the same but I've finally done some work on the rear bumper.

Trying to focus on what I want the build to end up as. So saving up for a 4WU 3 link front kit, and deavers for the rear. Unless I design the 3 link myself.
This is a very interesting build that I just discovered this evening. I have an '84 4WD Hilux I want to put a larger engine into. rustED built a nice 302 swap too and his truck awakened me to the possibility of a 302, which I really like as a swap.
I'll have to come back later this weekend and look through all your postings in this build thread. I'm very interested in the fact you have a T5 also. I'm sure I'll have some questions, but I'll review your build first as they may already be answered there.

The T-5 is awesome but the adapter kit that mine uses is no longer made. Hasn't been since like 2003.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have though.

Shoot, that's too bad. Do you happen to know which company made it? One never knows, a used part might appear out here in Internet Land somewhere.
With the Le Mans 24 Hour and Father's Day activities, I haven't been able to read the thread all the way through, but I will tonight.
I've had some Beard seats laying around for quite some time. Since the stock seats weren't the best and I like how the Beards hold you in the seat I decided it was time to fab up some mounts. So I got some PRP slider mounts which conveniently mounted right up to the Beards and began making a solid seat mount. This is what I've come up with so far. I plan on making an aluminum plate that covers all the bracket from below the seat frame to the floor of the 4Runner for a clean install.
The seats look great, look like they'd be nice and comfy too!
That 4WU 3-link front suspension looks like an awesome product, spendy, but awesome. RBX is running it on his 88' 4runner and seems really happy with its performance both on and offroad.
