Fink:
if you can find a spare trailer tire to fit the u haul. I would recommend it based on personal experience.

--u haul takes forever to get one out to you
--I blew out 2 tires (new) on one side coming back from the coast 4th of july...glad I had 2 extras.

wheelbase of the Chevy will help you out. I towed my '81 a couple of times with my '05 tacoma...power was fine, braking (e-brakes) OK but just not the greatest tow vehicle.
My Tahoe tows the Trekker just fine...

edit: random thought...find an extra case to install and give Brian a real challege to get it all done

Good advice on the spares for the Uhaul - not sure if I'd be able to find one very easily though.

I think it will be fine, I want to check and see if it has an oil cooler.
If it does I'll worry about it less.

On a side/bonus note, I think I found a lady friend to bring along.

Here's a few teasers for ya...

I'll get a thread up for it in the trip report section soon.
I need to get some sleep.

Talking

Did you bring some of this stuff for Brian?

edit: I just noticed the design of the rear shackle...nice trick to keep the shackle from extending too far either direction..very cool

you gonna sweep all that dirt off the clean shop floor

He's a big boy, he can handle the long days and late nights - well, maybe not the late nights, right Brian?

Yeah, we thought it was kinda funky looking but we figured it had to be some kind of limiting device - I'll take a few better shots of them today.
Only thing we may have a problem with is we're using a front Trail-Gear shackle mount/hanger kit which is longer than the OME ones.

Worst-case scenario is I'll have to order a Trail-Gear rear kit to get the rear level, or a little higher, than the front.

We'll have the rear knocked out early this morning (have to build some lower shock mounts) and hopefully the front by this afternoon.

I'll be taking lots more pics, don't worry.

3 days and one mashed finger later it's done...loaded on the trailer and headed for home tomorrow morning.

Typical working on an older truck...not everything is as it should be so there is always some modding and some fixing.

I'm not a fan of the booty fab...and having to fix it.

She's home and sitting in the driveway.

I have got to do some school work tonight so I will get everything loaded up and a new thread started in the trip/trail report tomorrow.

Took her for a good drive a little while ago to Wal-Mart for some fuel injector cleaner and gas.
Gotta get me a double-cardan joint for that rear driveshaft like yesterday - that thing almost rattled my shoes off.

I only feel it in 1st and 2nd gear and then whenever I put my foot into it - she gets up and goes though.
The suspension is just nuts - SO much better than before.

Brian, would you say my stock suspension was a little worn?

my set up is very similar to yours.
I love those rear leafs. My truck drives better than any Yota I ever owned.
