I've thought about that, there are pics where I think they cool and some other where they look a little awkward.
I may talk to him about it though as it would be nice to have some cover from the rain in a pinch.

ORDERED

Full OME kit (leafs, shocks, shackles, pins, steering dampener)
U-bolt flip kits (front and rear)
Extended brake line kit
Front shackle hanger kit
New shock mounting hardware from Toyota

I'll be making a trip down to Tuscaloosa to Wabbit's shop August 27th-31st to get everything done.

Suspension install
Cut and re-mount from shackle hangers
Tub fender wells
Axle gusset (maybe)

There's a few other small things we may and try get done but we need to focus on the suspension and getting the pull problem fixed.
After that we'll tub the fender wells and go from there.

I'm stoked!

By far one of the most badass builds I have seen on a 1st gen.
That cage and bumper is some of the sweetest tube work I've seen.

After I get all the stuff down in Bama done I'm hopefully gonna take a break from spending money, then maybe around Christmas start going for bumpers and a winch.

Thanks!

Fink
that random line/tube looks like its the throttle plate dampner...

So that when you shift or drop off the gas pedal quickly the throttle plate does not close too fast and starve the motor of air.

That's the reason I got a first gen too. Nice looking runner and good luck getting all the bugs figured out!

Frame shop called today.
Front right leaf spring has become "unwound," and it has a left front sag to the frame.

This will contribute to the drastic driver side lean I'm having as well as the pulling, I'm assuming due to the weak leaf spring on the passenger side.
They're going to make a few pulls on the frame on Monday and get her straight then when i get the suspension replaced we should be set.

Amen to that.

If this fixes my axle/steering/pulling issues then I'll be set.

The engine I think will be the next thing that will need work.
It's got a good leak at both the main and crank and it is also slowly leaking coolant from a hose at the bottom of the radiator and also below the belts.

As long as I keep an eye on the fluids it will get me by for awhile, but I'm looking at maybe doing a full rebuild of it by February or so of next year.

Also want to add A/C to it - it was 104 the other day with 80% humidity.

Nice 4Runner! Do you have any close up pics of the Rustoleum bed liner you used on the roll bar? It looks nice and smooth from a distance.

I don't.

I'm picking it up from the frame shop tomorrow, I'll snap some when I get it home.

I was very happy with the finished product.
One coat of the "Stops Rust" primer after a really good sand and clean and it was ready to go.
Only disappointing thing was the first can I bought gummed up and quit spraying after I used about 1/4 of it - it isn't cheap, somewhere around $7.50/can IIRC.

End result was well worth it though - just be sure to cover anything within 15-20 feet, it lingers and clings to everything.

Someone i know, matt did that in his 85 runner.

But he bolted the speaks to a round piece of tubing with a tab on both sides, and welded two peices of tubing to the roll bar, so you could put the speak in and it would stay, but it was also easy to remove. Im sorry my details were horrible in explaining that, but he said he like them except for the blind spots.

Fink ill be keeping an eye on this, i didn't even know this thread was out there.

those are some MASSIVE pic's. welding skills, i have none. not my desire either.

at 1st i was going to drill in but then voted against it, too permanent for me and i really doubted getting holes line up.

i just took the brackets, 2-sided taped them in place and then just used the hose clamps to mash them in good. holds real solid too. i was going to try fishing the wire up through the bar too and then i found black speaker wire and figured i'd just zip-tie it on up. the speakers rotate so they can be pointed backwards for "party" mode.

of course new speakers up front too, but no radio yet......arrgh! $$$$$$

i'm totatlly into the undercoating then enameling the hell out of it...makes a superb eggshell-like coating.
