wow this truck is starting out on the wrong foot with me LOL. I will start with the unfinished oil change, the drain plug has been so abused I cant even begin to explain rounded off, welded on and leaking this is how we found it, then on to the filter first off POS fram and on top of the let me just say NEVER USE A FILTER WRENCH TO TIGHTEN THE FILTER omg this thing was on there but we finaly got it broke loose, hopefully I can run down a drain plug tomorow so we can get oil back in it.
started checking into the brakes to get weak braking issue sorted out a discovered a leaking wheel cylinder no biggie except I really hate drum brakes and Im sure these will need replaced when I get the drums off so that issue turned into a bigger job than I had hoped but I dont have a choice now.
Ok enough complaining, chris has spent all day tinkering on it washed it cleaned the interior some. the truck has been painted part of it with spray can so getting the outside looking much better at the momentjust isnt gonna happen, however I jumped in and scraped the ALL 80s purple tint off the windows I grew up thru the 80s and cant figure out why that was ever considered cool, any way the truck is looking much better, chris pulled the valve cover got it cleaned up "as with the rest of the engine as best he could" come up with a cool paint scheem for it that I think will look nice, on that note I looked at the chain guides and they seem to be in good shape, thought it was kind of odd it looks like at some point the rockers have contacted the cover its got odd gouges on the inside not bad but there ya know. well thats all for the day if we get the cover and everything back on tomorow I will get him to post up some pics.
and mark yes a fan shroud is needed I think I have a spare around here somwhere just have to dig it out.

Good grief, why would someone torque down an oil pan bolt so tight?
If you need it, I can get you that part number for the double stage self tapping plug I got, Jason.... Sure beat replacing the pan! haha(IF, of course, it's threads are munched... not for the heck of it
)
Nice work, Chris,... STAY ON IT, or it will BITE YA! HAHAHA. Good to see you got a good dude like your Pop's backing you up

I was asking where you guys are because I'm from middle Tennessee. You guys are west of where I'm from, though... To the tune of 90 miles. I'm not sure where it is yet, but a non forum friend who has a couple of trucks said that he knows of a junk yard here in Middle Tennessee with a maybe four or five of them sitting in it. I'll PM you the name of the place and the phone number.

Chris...I can tell you are new to Toyotas.. Some one always does a half butted job on working on these and you get to be the one that goes and straighten it out. Just kidding. Dont think I have ever worked on one that had so poor workmanship on. Glad to hear you are getting things clsoer to the way they should be.
Bet you dollars to donuts, it still has the orginal Toyota shocks on it. That is another common problem I run into. Poor maintainace.lol.

hey guys well the parts store had a drain plug so that issue is fixed.
I will let you guess witch ones the new one lol.

the engine cleaned up alittle

the valve cover off, the engine looks preaty clean, like I said chain guides look to be good.

and painted up and looking spiffy

the driverside arm rest was falling off, I got that fixed for him. missing the pass side mirror found one I had laying around but the holes in the door are pulled out so I will have to figure out a fix for that. found a fan shroud and got that put on. the wheel cylinders are special order at the parts tore so that will have to wait a few days. Im a little worried we got everything buttoned up today started it up and its dripping oil from the back of the engine Im thinking rear main but it will be a good job for the boy to learn on. thanks for checking in guys.

I wish I had done more of with Pops on this end when I was younger! Can't go back, but that's one thing I would change, of course.... NEVER can get enough time together working on stuff before you're off and on your own.... GOD KNOWS WHERE! hhahaa.... and he's a GOOD DUDE/GOOD EYE on the Resto-end.... USE HIM! hehehehe... Sorry Jason... couldn't resist! lol.
Hey, maybe Terry can stop by some time and chime in, eh? Wish I could...
Very cool to see this coming together... EVERY lil piece that's done,....well, IT'S DONE! ya know?

Hahaha... YEP, I remember when I walked 58 miles to school in the snow, with no socks in Van's Skate Shoes!!..... Ok, that never happened, lol.
Actually, I did lots of stuff with pops.. including building hot rods, etc.(70 Z28 w/Built 327 Maco Motor, 64, 66 and 69 Chevelle's, 66 Mercury Cyclone).... BUT, ...... as my brothers and I got into the later teens... that stopped and we just built without him, NON STOP! 454 27' Challenger Jet Boats... MANY Mustangs, including my 66GT/K Model 5spd. rocket!.... Me and Pop's Built a 351 for an 89 Bronco XLT/ SC'd, etc.... But MOST fun was building a couple 1ST Gen Bronco's with him.... MAN, I would give no where near as much for one of those Bronco's in my driveway again... as I would for another 3-4 Projects with Pops! He's too old to get his own Coffee now without complaining... Yep, I miss it and wish i'd done it more!
Have fun you guys.... can't wait to see this thing transform over time!(not that it's a PIG, now, haha... YKWIMean!

I have tried to teach chris how to think, imho thats the most important thing in life. since he was young I would give him little jobs to do and only step in if I thought he was doing somthing that he might hurt himself or me lol. he has helped me work on all my projects " dirt track car, drag raceing, home improvement, building my shop" but I think this one meens a little more becouse its all his to make what he wants out of it, and I look forward to helping him get it there.
