Last few days I installed the replacement interior dome light I got off Ebay for about $35.
The mechanic that did the work on my Runner had 6 caps for my 91 SR5 wheels. Today I cleaned the up and then cut out the center of 2 of them so that I could still access my locking front hubs....pretty happy with the results.
Also cleaned up the license plates and put them back on the truck with current tags.
Cleaned up the interior dash area that was really dirty from sitting from 20 years and happy with it now....probably go over it again with some 303 cleaner.
Spent the afternoon cleaning up the old centerline rims and older tires which I promptly listed on FB Marketplace for $200. SOLD in 1 day.
Today I worked on the black trim around the front and rear side windows that had lost some paint due to the sun here in Cali and was starting to get some surface rust deposits. Sanded down the metal with a scotch brute pad and re-painted in semi-gloss paint which looks 100% better and now protected. Used back to black on the plastic panels between the from a rear side windows which worked well.

Well, yesterday was a good day. On FB Marketplace a few 1st Gen parts for sale so I messaged the guy regarding a radio surround I needed for my rig and he had one. I asked for several other parts which he also had so i met him about 20 miles from my house to grab the parts:
Radio surround uncut and in great condition.....
Ashtray metal slider like new...
Speaker grill for the passenger side dash....
2 Side cargo panels that were not sunbaked and no cracks...
$180 for everything
Need to find some SEM paint in brown to match the cargo panels with the rest of the interior.
I got home with the loot and found another guy who listed a factory rear bumper in good condition for $100. Met up with him an hour later and bought that too since my current bumper is a aftermarket unit and was banged up and twisted pretty good after 40 years of use.
I am off to the auto detailer tomorrow to have the rig detailed and paint brought back to life. They will also shampoo the seats and carpet which probably has never been done....can't wait to see how it looks on Friday.
It's only 100 degrees out but I finally got up enough energy to go out and install the rear bumper and radio surround.
Just finishing touches and odds and ends to complete.
Mike
I’ve never seen that bumper with the extra pair of bolts on each side. Are they bolted through the mounting brackets?
The good thing about this style is you can add a Curt 2” hitch and it's mostly hidden and much more sturdy than the step bumper you had. Curt hitch p/n C13024

Good eyes Melrose......yes the previous owner had installed brackets on either side of the bumper for some type of equipment. I removed the brackets and filled the holes with the stainless bumper bolts you see. They are just for show and not bolted to the brackets.
Mike
Finally got around to cleaning up the used cargo side panels that I bought on the cheap a few months back. After a bit of clean up i hit them with some SEM brown paint and I think they look a 1000% better.

Finally some more work on the 4Runner. The old interior plastic cargo area side panels were broken and cracked like chips when I removed them.
I was able to get the replacement panels installed w/o breaking the plastic so really happy with that.
Now I just need to pull the crusty air cleaner housing and get it cleaned up and repainted.
excellent work on the 4runner, mike! it looks great. hard to believe it's the same one from the first photo in the thread.
the interior is really nice, and those seats are fantastic. @4Runner4Leon did you note mike's hvac control faceplate? that's the same style that came with your later 4runner. for mike's, it's the factory correct one. toyota changed it in '87 to the single-color version that both of my '87s were equipped with (but hard or impossible to find nowadays). the shift knob retains its original leather cover - many 4runners have lost this. it is much nicer than the bare knob.
hope you are enjoying the renaissance of this '84, and driving it whenever you can.
Thanks for the kind words Wally, much appreciated.
I finished up this weekend with removing the air cleaner and cleaning it up, then a repaint. That was about the last of the big things on the list to do.
This coming week I will do another full cleanup and vacuum on the rig and finally take it to the local cars and coffee to show it off a little. I have only put about 20 miles on the truck since I bought it so it's time to give her a good shake down and see if there are any little leaks or rattles that need attention.
I will post up some pics next week to show her off from all angles and you folks can chime in if you see anything i missed.
Thanks for all the support over the last 18 months.
Mike

@wallytoo Thanks for the shoutout! Yup, that's exactly the faceplate that mine came with (lower one in photo below), but I replaced it with the appropriate one for my '87 (upper one):

I replaced my bare shift knob with a leather one
How did you like that '89 going for $37K on BAT??
Sorry for the threadjack Mike, your truck is looking awesome!

i thought it was pretty solid. not many better ones out there that are close to original. more than i'd pay, but that seems to be the market for super nice 1st gens. i like my well-used, and reliable, stable of 1st gens just fine, though.
Beautiful!
You could call it “zebra print” but what it is is 1984 only Sr5 Sport seats.
I would not list this truck on ebay. It is complete/clean enough for Bring A Trailer.
