thats a nice first gen, my favorite body style of all toyotas, except i like the circle lights, but this is still a damn nice truck, if you dont mind me asking how much did you pick it up for?

 

Cost me a little over 3k, but it had some nice goodies done to it already. A solid platform to start with, I thought. Love the round lights, I guess some people convert them over? I like the '83 with the rectangle ones though, so it will stay as it is.

 

It's kinda funny, everyone always says they like the rounds, but I've always kinda liked the Grille and lights from the 83.

 

the main reason i like the rounds is the sentimental value, my dad had a 79 yota and he took that thing everywhere, rolled it 3 times, abused it and it just asked for more, thats the reason im into toyotas, the square ones are growing on me tho

 

Had to tap one of the caliper holes to 1/2-20 because it was stripped out.


Rebuilt set of used Longs fresh from Bobby. PO said they were nice, but they felt like total crap after opening the box up, so I sent them to Bobby. Cost me $470 for a rebuilt set in the end




One thing that confused me was I ordered some Birf snap rings from Marlin (left) and the set that Bobby sent me (right) were the correct size. What did Marlin send me?

The springs are 2 x OME 008FA's driver side w/ a 3/8" plate on the driver side. Oh ya, the perches are drilled 1 1/4" back to move the ax-kle forward. Looks like I need to get the driveshaft lengthened!

 

Putting the knuckles on. Trunions came out to about 10-12lbs per side, but then I felt them the next day and there was a notchy feeling in them, so I put another .010 shim up there, ... about 8-10lbs pull now. The fish scale isn't the most accurate thing in the world. They feel great.

Trimmed up the brake shields, left the top part for the hose attachment and a slot to disassemble the axle without having to bleed the brakes, the hard line just slides through it.



Ax-kles in, grease going in. I will change the grease fitting to a 45.



All buttoned up:





Need to adjust steering stops, clean/paint axle hubs, install them on the vented rotors, put the bearings in and install with the V6 calipers.

 

looks amazing... makes me want to tear mine apart and rebuild it and paint it...

keep it up... giving the rest of us motivation!

 

Installed the rotors, hubs, calipers, lines! Finally looking complete again.

Rotors:
87 Landcruiser FJ-60, Raybestos Professional series, I've had good luck with various parts of that series.

Calipers:
'95 4Runner, larger of the piston sizes, I noticed they had the same part # listed for the T100.

Beck Arnley SEI Sumitomo OE

Lines:
Pro Comp kit from Summit

-Steering studs: stock replacements from Marlin w/ 12 point head, installed w/ red loctite
-Moly grease in the knuckles 1/2-3/4 full
-Red disc brake grease in the wheel bearings
-Koyo bearings all over from Marlin's kit, Marlin seals

I plan on getting it dirty, but even dirty painted parts look good.

Bump stops: yes, I will probably get the TG ones, or just use the original ones, and I will have to make some extension boxes, I cut the original ones off because I moved the axle forward 1 1/4". I probably could have left them on there, but figured I'd keep it cleaner and straight.

I have a longbed I am working on at the moment and I am considering bobbing it to get a softtopper on. Do you know the length of your bed??

 

I believe it's 72", but I can measure it for you. I was thinking the same thing, ...a softopper would be nice!

I was wrong, it's about 75" in the middle of the rails. Softopper says they fit 72-74, so I think it could work on mine. You might want to get your softopper first, then bob to fit.

 

lookin' pretty sweet .. wheres the boot for the steering column ?

Steering box plated up and welded, installed. Tightened up the tie rods, bled the brakes, installed the 1.5" wheel spacers, and set her on the ground!

The rubber boot for the steering column was sitting aside, I put it back on, would like to get a new one, maybe the dealer has them.

I think I need to remove the pitman arm and move it over 1 tooth, the steering isn't even.





Gotta get some weight on this thing and flex the springs in. Rear shackles need pushed on!
