God yes! That's where the whole 'brake job' takes a turn into "HOLY CRAP THIS JOB IS NOW HUGE!" hahaha. Fuel lines can be a bit of a pain, too...but yeah, that's good you were ok. No pics of the job? That'd've been sweet! lol.

Killer truck! Your rust repair is amazing. It looks 100 times better than when you first got it.

thanks!
I was pretty overwhelmed by the body rust on this thing. I read some stuff here and there about how to proceed with fixing the rust. It really isn't that complicated once you get it down to bare metal.

Hey Bud, I'm sure you saw my posting of what the noise is....... SECOND STEERING PUMP IN 3 MONTHS! LOL. Grrr. Anyway, have aNOTHER problem, ..of course, lol. Curious if you'd stop by and lend a couple cents.... or maybe ask your buddy, tomorrow, once I post my findings on the alternator test. Don't mean to highjack, honest...... just always love having as many 'heads' in the mix as possible, ya know?

Have a great one, Bud, and DANG, seriously.... I've been looking for another 81-83... I really loved that ride! lol.

almost done!
Brief rundown...
Total engine rebuild - New Asian clutch, dual row TC, 268 cam, bored 60 over, Toyota head gasket, complete head rebuild!
Due to limited time I decided not to pimp out the entire engine bay. This is my DD and as nice as it would be to detail everything I just didn't have the time. I built the top end today and got it in the rig. Tomorrow finish it off and get it running!!!!

THANKS CHEF! I am praying too and I don't pray!
The biggest hassle I had with the entire build were the motor mounts. Once I got the block snug to the bell housing I could not line up the mounts. I took me all of two hours to get is straight. I decided to call it a night and I will finish it in the morning.
Thanks for the nice words!!

Hey, don't feel bad on the mounts.... I got new Moogs from Napa? ...THEY GAVE ME THE WRONG ONES! Too tall, ....so NO MATTER WHAT I DID, ...it would not line up! hahahaha. Yes, I can laugh now, but I WAS TICKED OFF when I hit the counter the next day at Napa and said, "PUT THAT CHUNK OF CABBAGE BACK ON MY CREDIT CARD, PLEASE? THESE ARE WRONG!" HAHAH...not to mention, ......really funny..... ONE WAS TALLER THAN THE OTHER! OMGOSH, what a fiasco! lol.

Congratz, man, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly comforted by the PURRRRRRRRRRRRfect first start, homie!

Checkin back 2morrow, ....

Mark

That looks killer! Super clean and new. I can't wait to see it in your truck and hear it runnin. Those motor mounts always give me a problem with lining up. I usually use a really long pry bar and coax them into place.

Thanks!!
I finally had to get out the BFprybar and do some coaxing. I have never swapped a motor on an early Yota. The 3rd gens don't seem to be as big a probelm.
I will tell you one thing.. this morning my entire body is sore.

Yes, VERY SORE! Especially when dealing with all those weird angles and rates of tension on the lig's, muscles and tendons,eh???

I still laugh every time I think about what Napa did to me, lol.... but MANNNNNNNN, was I sore.

My problem was more that I could NEVER get a bolt into the mounts on EACH SIDE, .....because the height and the then increased distance they created due to "angle vs. height". Finally, someone told me, "Take em out and measure em against the others"........"OH MY GOSHHHHHHH!", I said, hahaha.

Glad you're ok though, Spearo, ...... CAN'T WAIT to see you start that up and VROOM! lol.

Got it running. A few cranks with no plugs to get the pressure up then fired it with the plugs in and success.
A little white smoke out of the tail pipe due to the cylinders having oil and the system being down for a week.
All went well. Tomorrow I will break the cam in and change the oil and keep an eye out for any leaks. The new 268 sounds throaty!! I am stoked to see how it performs.
A few people asked if I would post a vid of it so here it is...

Good God Chef! I would be furious if I bought mounts and they were wrong. It was bad enough getting things to line up with the JAPANESE OEM!!! I was at my end a few times on getting the motor to seat in there just right. I was doing it by myself most of the time and I finally had to get a second hand. What a PITA!

THanks!!!
Today is break in the cam day.
The only bummer in all this are gas prices. Last last week when I parked this truck gas was $3.25 a gallon. This morning gas prices are $4.30 and 5 quarts of oil was $27.00. Oh well, I suppose I can sit and look at my new motor.
