Talking toyospearo's 1982 Pickup Build-Up Thread

I picked up this 82 here on the north coast of CA. I looked and looked and this one kind of found me . The guy I got it from took really good care of it over the years but the rust got to be too much for him. He parked it, started it every now and again over the years and then he decided to let it go.
When I got it it was leaking oil from the valve cover and the oil pan. The output shaft seal was leaking as well. There are rust problems galore. I picked up new front leafs and a rebuild kit with bearings, new front rust free fenders and u bolt flip kits.
So far I have fixed all the gear oil and oil leaks, flushed the system and replaced most of the gaskets.
Below is the rig and a few mods... I plan on updating regularly so stay tuned.
The day I got it.

these came with it...

Finally got a decent welder!!

fixing rot..

more rot..

bondo to smooth it out (thanks Bindergirl!)

surf shot to keep from getting bored...

After fixing all the oil leaks I decided to rebuild the carb. I got a Napa kit and went to town!

back on, shiny as hell and running like a champ!!

New carpet goes in this week and much more to come!!

This is precious. SO, I just got done working on a commercial for.. wait wait for it, wait.......

JEEEEEPPP!!! ahhahah I just spent two weeks with the creative team from Jeep working on the new Grand Cherokee ad. All the guys on the job had built jeeps, CJ's, Grand Wagoneers etc. I was the whipping boy because I have built Yota's ahhaha. They were actually really nice guys to work with and a few of them even said they liked Yota's but had to be loyal to Chrysler. ahhah
The irony of it all was most of the money I made on the job went to buying parts for my 82
Here are a few pics.
Oregon dunes..BTW that is a prototype for the commercial. Price tag $500,000. after we are done with the ad the ENTIRE rig gets destroyed due to liability issues.

My idea..

foggy jeep..

FINALLY I bought a decent ratchet and screwdrivers!!!

Almost done with my new motor.. I am kinda of torn between taking the motor thats in it now out and putting this one in. The compression on the one in it now is perfect and after I did the carb rebuild the thing runs great. No leaks, super strong. I think I am going to drive it till it fails and store this new one. Not sure what to do.. DAMN Toyotas never die..

another 22r porn shot..

this is what is next.. full front end rebuild with new OME leafs!!!

got a few things done this week. Pulled the hood off, repaired and bondoed it. Got new front fenders primered and ready. Cut the front bumper off and getting it ready for a front end rebuild. I busted off at least 4 bolts and tomorrow I need weld in new metal..
Hood sanded and waiting for primer..
Pulled this diamond plate off the lower doors and lower body. EVERY 1st gen I have seen in this area the doors and lower body are rotted. The PO put them on when he got it back in 82 to prevent rust. It worked!

Hood ready for paint..

Had to cut out rust on the tailgate..

Nice paint job..almost hate to paint over it

This little truck is working the few last nerves I have left!
Lots of rust which I knew about. I thought I would be able to fix the driver side door but it is not to be. I ended up getting another in decent shape.
I would not have taken all this on had the frame been rotten. The frame is in surprisingly good shape.
I hope to have the body work completed by next week and then paint!!
here is some carnage!

tomorrows nightmare..
