Progress is slow, cuz I work out of town a lot. Snagged a power steering pump here in Portland OR last night. Last week I dropped my ac evap, condenser and radiator at the old timer’s radiator shop down the street from my house... he loves old Toyotas and hates new Chinese parts so I’m hoping he can get all that stuff refurbed and serviceable for me. Chilkat engine mounts showed up before I left too... when I realized I needed to buy 3rz brackets anyway, I figured might as well skip those and just get the conversion mounts. They’re pretty beefy. Got the floor patch welded in, need to seal it and paint... does anyone have a body panel sealer recommendation?

Sweet truck! What made you go for a 3RZ over a 5VZ?
As far as seam sealers, can't go wrong with 3M stuff. I've only used a couple times but never had a problem.

Wow it’s been awhile since I updated. Didn’t get much done over th summer due to the extreme garage heat & travel, but the engine is now in the engine bay. Plus I bought a FJ62 that is robbing some of my time as well. I’ll get some pics posted.
went with 3rz cuz
1: there was a lot of info available
2: I was under the impression a 5vze would require a body lift, which I am opposed to
3: I got most of this engine for $50
in retrospect I sort of wish I had gone w the 5vze. For a few reasons, but mainly due to it being much more common to get parts, plus I’ve been more familiar w the 6cy.l But I’m on this path and I’m not gonna dwell on it. The 3rz is going to be a great improvement and will be better mpg than the 5vze anyway.

HA! If by finished you mean dismantled even further...yes! Right now I've got the front axle pulled and torn down, I still need to clean and paint the axle itself and then rebuild and re-install it. I've collected a few more parts, and am hoping with the weather starting to turn I'll be spending less time in the yard and more in the garage, but only time will tell.
