Just picked this 1982

I have been looking for one of these trucks for a while, hard to find them in my area unless they are rusted down. It is an 82, 22r, 5-speed, Long bed with pb,ps and a/c. It needs some love but an overall sweet truck, needs steps and rear bumper removed and I want to put a 1979 - 1981 front end on it. Let me know what you think. I am new to this forums so I will probably be asking a lot of questions. But I am all Toyota, I have a 2003 4runner sport, 4x4, V8 and 1997 4runner, Limited (Mail Car).

If anyone has the grill, headlight buckets, front bumper, ect.

Thanks

Hampton

When you say you want to put a 79-81 front end on I take it you mean the headlights?
if not the 82 axle is the same 81-83, 79-80 axle housing is weaker. Just throwing that out there because some same front end interchangeable with axles

if you want to convert to round headlights check out my FAQ link in my signature, I am pretty sure there is a write up in there from a few years ago.

cool truck BTW!

The more I look, the more the front end looks like an old Chevy Luv.

I did mean swap the grill and headlights. She does favor the Chevy Love a lil bit, this truck was originally dark blue, may go back to the factory color. But I have a lot of work to do to make this truck happy. Today was the first day I got take a closer look under the hood. Got a small gas leak on the inside of the carb, has three small screws holding down a small metal cover. It appears the valve cover will have to be removed to access it, I guess it wouldnt hurt changing the valve cover anyway. The alternator is shot, has a brand new battery, below 12 on the stock gauge. The person met me half way yesterday, so on a cold start today (70 degrees), idles but it isn't happy, I'm thinking this idle issue may have a lot to do with the bad alternator. When I put the new battery in yesterday before the trip home (2 Hrs) it idled a lil bit high but ran strong. I fixed a bunch of vacuum leaks today, I received an alternator with the truck but hate to put it in and it be crap (heard it sucks). The break pedal also went to the floor a couple times in my trip home yesterday but pumped back up immediately, the breaks def need attention. Also it looks like some heavy oil is leaking from the from passenger side axle fitting. But over all its a pretty clean and straight truck, I'm happy with it. Any tips or tricks you can throw my way will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hampton

Update, alternator was good, the voltage regular was my problem. Still idles a pretty rough at start, gets better but not smooth like it should be. Previous owner had simi installed an electric choke and the wiring look sketchy at best, the choke has 4 wires.

Headlights work good, the outside ring works but blows fuses so I left them unhooked. Truck has come a long way. Now all I need to do is get it prepped to spray the white monstaliner.

Good to hear. Did you figure out the brand? I may put them in my 4runner with the 81 conversion

Great looking truck you have. Most of them I see are a big rust bucket. I did not know rust free 1st gens still existed.

Terrys87, you should visit the Pacific Northwest. I see rust free first gen. trucks about every few weeks.
