hyzerponix' 1983 Pickup Build-Up Thread

Here are a few updated pics of my truck since I bought it a month and change ago. Rattle canned Krylon Italian Olive flat (little bit lighter than OD green), took the rollbar out, and got T-Bag (the cur dog) a new box. He thinks he's all cool now.
I will be adding a custom plate bumper (already ordered) and winch, and also having the bed and rails Linexed. Probably won't change it much dimensionally, but I do plan on rebuilding the suspension with upgraded components in the future.
Anyway, here it was in the PO's driveway:

And here it is this morning:

I'm in Missouri, but the PO brought it here when he moved from Cali a few years back. The body is incredibly solid and the frame is perfect.
Oh yeah and I forgot to add I did the turn signal conversion too.

Where are you ordering your plate bumper from? I didn't know anyone made them for 1st gen trucks. Good plate bumpers are hard to find.

Well, he doesn't advertise bumper work, so I don't want to tell you that you can definitely order a bumper from him. He's a member here. I would rather not say for now because I think it should be up to him whether he wants to put his name out there lest he get a bunch of PMs from possible tire kickers.

I bet if you look at recent build threads you could figure it out.

i'm sure your going to "toast" that rear bumper (aluminumn) .. so if you want to sell it, before it gets wrecked .. I would be interested .

If it were up to me, it wouldn't say "Toyota" anywhere on it. I work for an American auto manufacturer and would like to be able to drive this truck in from time to time without it being spit on or the tires slashed. So I decided to paint over all the logos. Hey, my truck right?

Also, I bought a used grille and my old cracked one still has a decent Yota logo if anyone needs it. I'll send the logo for free to the first guy who wants it, just have to wait til the replacement grille gets here.

My oil pressure/volt meter gauge housing is all busted up:

So I took it to work this afternoon and set out looking for a replacement. Came up with this small sheet metal box and mounted the gauges in it:

The box is 2" narrower than the stock housing, so I made some 1" "spacer brackets":

Hopefully the next pics I post will be of this thing mounted in the truck. Have to wait til I get home from work to try it out...

New gauge housing complete and mounted. It is very sturdy and one less piece of plastic to worry about cracking:

Received my new-to-me-and-uncracked grille today, and thus I now have an extra logo. If anyone wants it, PM me an address and it's yours.

It's been a while, so here are some updated pics of the truck. Got the front bumper from Rory D mounted, as well as the rear air tank bumper I had made with the help of some friends. Still need to plump the air in and buy a winch, but it is coming along!

Note the small rust patch on the front bumper, passenger side. This is where the truck kissed a concrete barrier last winter, when some butthead in a Tahoe ran me off the road. The truck smacked pretty hard, but this bumper held its ground and there was not one bit of damage to it or the rest of the truck. Mr. Rory DesJardin makes one heck of a plate bumper, folks!

Lovin that front bumper, just out of curiosity, you don't happen to still have the extra grille emblem do you?

I noticed your Curr dog up above, do you Hog hunt?
