Slowly making progress with the intake manfold. Putting my new tool set to use and cleaned up all the threads and have new bolts.

Nice. I know I wish I had a welder too. Such a handy tool.

Black finish is just another type of finish.

I was looking into all my Torque specs since I will be putting everything back together soon and I noticed that the FSM calls for a sealer on the EGR valve??? I know that the intake manifold gasket I picked up from Toyota already has the gasket attached for the EGR valve so why need a sealer? I'm wondering if this is only necessary if you did not remove the intake manfold and only removed the EGR valve. But then again it says to apply a sealer on the upper right bolt which totally throws me off. Any idea guys?

Almost all threads I have found just talks about capping the egr valve for a de-smog but I cannot do that.

Here is what my intake Manifold gasket looks like, notice the egr valve gasket already attached.

Is this not for the bolt that goes into the coolant jacket? I believe that one of the bolt holes align with the coolant passage.

Mike, i'm not sure on what you are referring to. Are you talking about these two bolts closer to the middle of the intake?

Doesn't one of the bolts for the EGR go into the intake manifold and bolts to the block where there is a coolant passage? I think that's why they are saying to apply sealant to the threads of the bolt. Similar to some of the bolts that mount the timing chain cover to the block.

Mike, You may be right. Today i was cleaning up all the threads on the head and realized the top right bolt (arrow below) goes all the way through the head and into some passage like you mentioned. I'm assuming this is the bolt they are referring to and as you mentioned they suggest you put sealant on the threads of the bolt.

Would Permatex ultra copper be good to use?

Everything slowly getting put back together. I sure wish I took more pictures with all of these vacuum lines Then again it's good to just follow the diagrams and make sure everything is where it actually needs to be.

Hey Chowboy thanks I appreciate it!! The mountains with all the toyotas in it is the San Gabriel mtns but I'm from Chino so the San Bernardino mountains are close to me as well. I always enjoy taking a trip to Joshua Tree and hoping to go soon once this cold weather goes away lol I've been seeing everyone post about KOH and hope to go one year.

Alright everyone, the Intake and Carb is finally back on the truck

Took me long enough but hey it was a great learning experience and I also save lots of money doing it. After going back and forth with the timing and adjusting the carburetor I finally got it running smooth. I would like to lean it out a tad bit more and also turn the idle down a little bit more.

Here is a video of the truck running if you care to see Let me know what you guys think.

Nice work! That motor sounds spot on. It makes me thankful that although we have emissions and inspection here in Colorado, it's not nearly as tough as you California folks get.

Ya it sucks having to deal with all these emissions and paying for the smog test on top of our already expensive registration haha
