Nice. I know I wish I had a welder too. Such a handy tool.

Black finish is just another type of finish.

I was looking into all my Torque specs since I will be putting everything back together soon and I noticed that the FSM calls for a sealer on the EGR valve??? I know that the intake manifold gasket I picked up from Toyota already has the gasket attached for the EGR valve so why need a sealer? I'm wondering if this is only necessary if you did not remove the intake manfold and only removed the EGR valve. But then again it says to apply a sealer on the upper right bolt which totally throws me off. Any idea guys?
Almost all threads I have found just talks about capping the egr valve for a de-smog but I cannot do that.
Here is what my intake Manifold gasket looks like, notice the egr valve gasket already attached.

Doesn't one of the bolts for the EGR go into the intake manifold and bolts to the block where there is a coolant passage? I think that's why they are saying to apply sealant to the threads of the bolt. Similar to some of the bolts that mount the timing chain cover to the block.

Would Permatex ultra copper be good to use?

Everything slowly getting put back together. I sure wish I took more pictures with all of these vacuum lines Then again it's good to just follow the diagrams and make sure everything is where it actually needs to be.

Alright everyone, the Intake and Carb is finally back on the truck
Took me long enough but hey it was a great learning experience and I also save lots of money doing it. After going back and forth with the timing and adjusting the carburetor I finally got it running smooth. I would like to lean it out a tad bit more and also turn the idle down a little bit more.
Here is a video of the truck running if you care to see Let me know what you guys think.

Nice work! That motor sounds spot on. It makes me thankful that although we have emissions and inspection here in Colorado, it's not nearly as tough as you California folks get.
