1983 toyota pickup 4x4

I just bought a 1983 sr5 4x4 pickup and plan on fully restoring it. There isnt to much missing i just wanna make it look just like my dads since he had a brand new 83. I am rebuilding the motor right now and will put up some pictures soon. I was just wondering where I can get some original parts such as the radio. Is looking in junkyards my only option because I can't find one anywhere online?

Contact Trekker Paul on this WEB site. He might have some original radios sitting around. He is a great person to do business with and very helpful.

Good luck with the restore! You must be from somewhere where they don't salt the roads!

Let's see some pics!

Got it down to 3200. The guy said it had a blown head gasket so he gave me a brand new head with it and a bunch of other new parts. I took the head off and it wasn't the head gasket it was the timing cover had a crack on it so it was getting water in the motor from there. Since I already hand the head and carb off I decided to rebuild the motor. I didn't want to put a new head on a worn motor I heard that not good.

Well for how nice the rest of the truck is I think you got an alright deal. These engines are dirt cheap and easy to work on with tons of parts availability. Good job.

heres what ive done to the truck since i have bought it in april never got to update it so i hope you guys like it.

bought the truck with supposedly a blown head gasket but it ended up being a cracked timing cover. we took the whole engine apart to look at the block and decided to do a rebuild.

decided to go with a different look for the valve cover so i took it to metal master in chino, ca.

was pretty excited when i picked up the valve cover. i thought they did a wonderful job for 40 bucks

wasnt expecting my motor to look this new and good when i got it back i know its a bad picture sorry

the day finally came when i was able to drop the motor in and get it running heres how the motor looks now

Thinking about ordering rock ripper toy headers for my truck but I don't know much about headers. What do you guys think or do you have any other suggestions?

Abraham Contreras 02-17-2018 02:06 PM

Haven't posted here in a while and just wanted to show a little work ive been doing to the truck.

I started to convert my truck into power steering and the longest process has been finding all of the parts but i finally got them all (or so i think).

I was able to get the pump from mikeztoyz on facebook. If i would of been patient enough i would of found one at a local pick a part but oh well
This is how it looked when i got it so i pressure washed it then took it apart and rebuilt it following a thread i found here on yotatech

How it looks installed.

The person i bought the box from was nice enough to throw in the cooler and reservoir as well.

Got the reservoir mounted up

Painted the cooler, pitman arm and bracket that mounts the box to my frame.

They guy that sold me the steering box had a beautiful first gen.

The one on the right was his neighbors.

I'm still not done with the power steering conversion because i decided to replace all the bushings on my front end and before you know it I was replacing the leaf springs as well.

What the axlle and springs looked like before. The springs were that bad but the ride was so stiff.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...3b69a57a5e.jpg

Decided to clean up and rebuild all the steering components while i was at it.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...8f25e538ea.jpg

I ordered the OME 2" lift light springs for the front along with their Greasable shackles and the flat Ubolts. Ordered from Low Range Offroad, free shipping and they are super helpful.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...69492a6883.jpg

Ordered new brake lines from LCE
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...fcdcae456f.jpg

I made myself a hard copy of the FSM at work and man this is so much better then looking for all the torque specs on my phone.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...a27fac67a3.jpg

Abraham Contreras 02-17-2018 02:29 PM

I was able to finish installing the leaf springs and man did i struggle to get the shackles on. I'm sure if i wasnt trying to rush it i wold of done it a lot faster but you learn the hard way.

Check out my neighbors new 59 apache he just picked up in the back . Had to run over to help push it up the driveway.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...afdc05f794.jpg

The drag link is cutting it close but i think the flat Ubolts helped out a little.
