Yeah i'll be 19 in a few months but i've worked on cars ever since I could hold a wrench, i'm actually in college for diesel tech. I hate going into auto parts stores and being looked at like a dumba$$ because of my age, but thats how it is

Nothing wrong with your age. I got my 83 when I was 22 (only 24 now) and knew very little about automotive maintenance work. Learned a lot since then and lot more left to learn but keep on wrenching on that truck!

We all start off at different ages, but that doesn't matter, we're all car people and thats what important. And you bet i'll keep wrenching on it, hopefully I can get some time to do an update (need pics) lol

Well it's good to. Know there are other young people out there that like to work on these older models I thought I was the only one who wasnt just intrested in cutting them up an making crawlers!

Agreed!
One thing I love about the first gen crowd is the proportion of people that want to keep them 22R/RE as opposed to ditching Toyota for an SBC.
These trucks really shine in the hands of people that love to tinker. Folks like the OP of this thread.
And for the record, I'm in the same age group as the last few posters: 24.

well looke like us younger people have our hands in the older trucks you can actually licenses them under antique plates if you keep it halfway original in louisiana and they are good for lifetime. mine has the 20r in it and the 83 parts truck i bought has a 22r but it has a hard knock in it after i finish my truck ill try and get it going agian but its always nice to know i have an extra motor axels and tranny i hear the 5spd tranny wil bolt up to my 20r the only reason i havent is the guy i bought it from used it as a mud rig and dogged it pretty hard

I've heard Antique plates are pretty restrictive.
I love my truck too much to not drive it every day!

Me too I drive my truck several times a week unless its just ridiculously hot. Mine doesn't have A/C and Memphis summers are super humid and hot.

louisiana has very few restrictions my dad has a 1973 lj20 with antiques on it... they are hard to get but once you have them they dont bother you to much about it in louisiana all though ill prolly just licenses mine on regular plates and may even look into custom plates just depends on cost

Alright, said I would get an update... first off after class I come out to my truck and was missing a bolt in my bumper, thought that it probably fell out when I was driving (one of the small ones on top that hold the little trim plate on) got home and started to wash it....... then my blinker fell out of my bumper.. so the way I see it either someone is taking some hardware they are missing, or they were trying to take more and my alarm went off....... this has just put me in a bad mood today so I got some nuts we had that fit and I put my blinker back on. Why not just go to the wrecking yard and get some nuts and bolts???? They will just look at the bolts and tell you have a nice day, and not pay anything!!! Rather than steal it from someone else. Okay back to some stuff i've done... my grill was broken and when I had my other first gen. I put on a 2wd grill and loved the look soooo much better than the 4wd one so I went and found one.

Also I got a sticker that I must say I love

IMAG0237.jpg?t=1351028193

Then after looking what seems like forever I finally found the tube that gos from the air cleaner to the outside of the rad support.

IMAG0238.jpg?t=1351028321

Then a random engine pic

IMAG0239.jpg?t=1351028389

And I know my wipers are messed up haven't got around to that... Also put a horn in from a lincoln to replace the meep meep horn and found a stock carpet mat the gos behind the seat try and get pics of that stuff soon

Oh just so everyone knows (since we have been talking on your thread lol) I have a 83 pickup FSM coming in the mail! If yall need to see something I can take pics and send it or something. Thinking about taking the spine apart and scanning it to a pdf to make it more user friendly.
