I just bought a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller with vehicle-specific wiring harness for my 2014 4Runner. I called Tekonsha tech support to ask about an extra ground wire included in the harness. The tech support guy told me that there have been problems reported specifically with 2014 4runners ONLY that have been know to require electronic module replacement in 2014 4runners. He was specific that it was only this exact vehicle that had reported problems. He said he would get back to me with more info after research, which I'm waiting on. He said having a scan tool to clear codes would be helpful if it causes them. He also recommended at a minimum to solder a rectifier diode on the red wire preventing current from coming OUT of the brake controller into the vehicle.

Has anyone heard of anything regarding this at all?
