So from the second gen to the now fifth gen, the 4Runner has gained 1000lbs meaning it is about the same speed as a third gen stock for stock...Love the styling, but it needs a diet and the 5.7L

It's almost 30 years now since the first 4Runner came out in 1984. Let's hope they keep the body on frame construction and offroad capability of the 4Runner and not follow the pathfinder in finding a path to become a car

Toyota should provide a 4.6L V8 option at least. the The 5.7L 3UR-FE would be the better one though.

with just a manual transmission option, it would be fine. no reason for it to have a v8.

I've driven my aunt's 2012 4runner plenty of times...the 270hp v6 is more than enough! I don't see why you would ever want a v8 in there and if you did...just move up to the sequoia

The sequoia is even slower courtesy of even more weight. 4Runner definitely needs the 5.7

I currently have 450rwhp in a 3800lb gto and let me tell you, it is NOT enough and feels slow. I should be satisfied at around 600 at the wheels on the jug but until then, I NEED MORE!

And when I drive the rents 2010...the very very few times I have gotten on it, it seemed like I could time its 0-60 on a freakin sun dial...

Hell, until the act of "dropping the hammer" results in instant death, there will ALWAYS be a need to go faster...

Still the same tired old engine and gearbox? The same poor fuel economy? Same disappointing entertainment system? I liked the Trail with KDSS well enough from the driving perspective, but for near $40k it's not what I had hoped for. Toyota does not seem interested in the US non-hybrid market.

2nd gen 0-60 in 10-11s, 17.5s 1/4 16mpg average
3rd gen 0-60 in 9-10s, 17s 1/4, 17mpg average
5th gen 0-60 in 7.5s, 16s 1/4 21mpg average

It's a bit updated...
