Did they drop the V8? I'd like to see the new 5.7L Iforce in a 4Runner!

I believe someone mentioned earlier (or maybe on another thread) that the plans were to have a 4 cylinder (limited availability) and a v6, with no PLANS for a v8, but don't eliminate the possibility.

V-8 was dropped months ago from 4th Gen production. My guess is that it's gone from 5th Gen lineup forever.

Hopefully that will be offset by the updated 1GR, new gearing and lighter weight.

I found some good info from another site. Wider, longer, taller, and more ground clearance. Returns to roots, but has 20" optional wheels???

Says NEW 4.0 and NEW 2.7, but does that mean its the same 1gr and 2tr, or totally new engines?

AdamF you are the man. Excellent find! I think you got it just in time...it has been pulled from Google Docs. Please tell me you saved the whole document...It looks like there is another page to this doc that I would love to read...can you post the whole thing? GREAT FIND! Thanks again. Some thoughts...

-crawl control sounds great, is this like a marlin crawler or inchworm double xfer case setup?
-sliding rear cargo deck is fantastic for the ARB fridge
-engine seems very powerful
-rugged styling 'return to its roots' we will have to be the judges on that. hross14 I agree with you the new designs just don't seem to 'get it'.
MANUAL TRANSMISSION GIVE US WHAT WE WANT!!!

it would be nice to have a rig the same size as the 3rd gen. This bigger and bigger and bigger thing doesnt make sense--bigger means you get a cruiser. Even then toyota would be wise to offer a trail version of the cruiser--bare minimums and no faux plastic crap.

In my opinion they have great platforms to build alot of really versitile vehicles.

Like they could have the soccer mom edition 4runner--Cushy springs, leather, no lockers, slush box, push buttom 4x4....etc..

Take that same platform--drop all the soccer mom edition stuff--bolt up a solid front axle, drop running boards, bigger tires and etc....no pretty-upped stuff and BAM--4Runner--RIG Edition.

And they couldnt call it an SUV--it would be a RIG!!

BT17R,

Thanks for all the info. You are the first to mention a 6sp auto tranny, are you sure on this? The current info circulating around never mentiones this....just curious. Also, its direct injected, making it the first Toyota motor other than Lexus to have this? I like the idea of a lighter weight body and more HP from the V6, should tow and accelarate well. Any idea when pics will start surfacing?

Thanks!
Brandon

bigbwb, that's the best info as of a month or so ago. I'll check for updates this week.

Is www.toyota-4runner.org down for everyone else? I like their separate 2010 area.

People still do that? I guess that's why we have a rule here that all extension cords for the servers are mounted at least waist high - that way you can limbo underneath them and tripping on them is never a issue....

Am I the only one that is sad about the sad loss of the Voodoo Blue?
I first saw the FJC back when it was a concept in Car and Driver, it was VDBlue with a white top, that was one of the first Toyotas I ever truly fell in love with (first were the 2nd and 3rd gen Runners). The color was part of that whole package for me. My class color! lol. Sorry for the rant. Just a little flustered.

personally, I think its a neat color, but it is not a color I would ever buy myself. However, to replace it with tan is pretty much uncalled for. The blue, in my opinion, is the most prominent color the FJ wore, and really made the image of the FJ. You'd think they'd eliminate a much slower selling color like the dark red metallic (name??)... But what do we know? We are just consumers who are told what we like by the companies we buy from...

Personally, when I get some money, I will be buying an FJC and pay/go it alone to have it converted into a removable top vehicle, painted all black haha. Maybe even a diesel swap.

Imagine how hot the FJ would sell in the following configuration: Diesel engine, solid front axle option, removable hard top, and a front locker in addition to the rear. Offer all that in a striped down no creature comforts true trail edition, and watch people flock...
