What was your first vehicle? Do you still have it?

I like to hear about what people drove when they were kid. I've heard stories such a high school kid working at a paint and body shop in high school buying a new 1969 Chevy SS Camaro 396/375 hp 4 speed. He said he's payment was $25 dollars a week and didn't know how he was ever going to make that payment but he did somehow.

Anyways my first car was bought when I was 14 about 1998 it was a 1970 Chevy nova. Still needs restored but I do still have it. When I was 16 I got sidetracked by a 1990 fox body mustang.

So what was your first car, I look forward to reading your stories

this threads gone over like a led ballon? well mine was a '57 Desoto i bought from my uncle for $25 and sold for the same to a guy to use in a dragster. it was the big hemi with a blowen head gasket but i couldn't replace it, just too heavy.

after that was 62vw with rag top slider. after army a 66 porsche and still have it but should have kept the 64 gto w 4sp & 3-2's ... lots of corvair's and still have them plus 67vw camper & 63 chev pu

The '82 toyota pu I bought around 2000 was a lucky find. I was T-Boned in my '79 honda civic and called some friends , was turned on to the '82 4x4 for 6 or 700? but needed lots of small repairs like broken window, reall bad oil leaks, lots of stuff but fixed as i worked so was good...

My first vehicle was my grandfather's 1992 4.3L Chevy S-10. Longbed, TBI fuel injection, auto trans, 2wd. I swapped the bed for a better less dented one, rebuilt the front suspension completely, changed the motor mounts, blew the transmission and had a new rebuilt kne installed for $1500, and many other parts replacements.

I titled it back to my dad who sold it to a close family friend for just $1000, and later it got sold back to my brother, so it's still in the family, but not mine.

I titled it back to my dad when I moved out to Oregon from NC on my motorcycle, and later got an old VOLVO 122, a 1967. I really had to work on that one. Then I got my first toyota 2wd, and just recently caught 4wd fever so sold that after getting a 1982 4x4. I'm 30 and only on my 4th car, which is fewer than a lot of people I know.

Mine was a 74 Ford Pinto. Paid $450 for it as I had to buy things for myself. I wanted to buy a 67 Camaro that was in a flood and no way were they going to let me buy a flood damaged car for $500.

My first car was a '53 Chevy 2 door. It had 4 new tires and a new battery.
I paid $150. It would pop out of 3rd gear over 50mph if you did'nt hold the shift lever down. I crashed it by oversteering on a dirt road corner, and the 235 engine went into my friends '49 Chevy pickup to replace his babbett bearing 216.

I had a 49 GMC. At 50mph that motor was revved up high. Granny gear would pull anything in those trucks.

My first was a 1976 Dodge Charger. I liked the car but had a lot of problems with it. I am sure it's been recycled by now.

'39 Ford. Bought it in '61, sold it in '61. Next car was a '57 Chevy, much easier to work on.

First car was a 84 Toyota xtra cab. Still my baby today! 7 others have come and gone but Toystory will never leave me! He'll die of cancer with me in the seat. Than I'll take his heart and put it in a younger brother and his legacy will live on within it

My first vehicle was a 1986 Toyota 4Runner Sr5. It was gray with a black top and the 22RE engine. I rode my 20" BMX bike 7 miles to the dealership and drove it home. That's also the same day I learned how to drive stick shift. I would still be driving it today, expect I ended up wrecking it 10 years ago.

87(?) Grand Marquis, my dad got it from a client who was going to take it to the junk yard. I got it for Christmas when i was 14. I drove it around our orchard, it smoked like crazy and drank coolant like it was going out of style. When i was 16 i acquired another free vehicle my dad saved from the junk yard

The first vehicle I bought was a red '95 Escort for $125. It needed an engine that I had in the blue-green '95 Escort my folks gave me when I graduated college in '08. I'd met a neighbor the hard way and needed a bumper. I still have the red one but it is the family spare these days. I got the '88 4x4 Extra-Cab that I drive now from a kind neighbor after I spent a winter driving my dad's '83 Ranger with a bad carb. I'll likely drive the '88 until she dies of cancer.

Gotta love those Escorts, (They're mostly Mazda ya know) I love my 4x4 Toyotas, but to get just from point A to point B, I run 2 Escort wagons and a sedan. The sedan sees a couple thousand miles a month. Gets 35mpg. Parts are cheap as dirt.

I wish I had enough sense as a kid to buy myself an FJ40 or a 1st gen 4runner, because I'd likely still have it......

My 1st was a 1967 VW bug. Mowed neighborhood lawns like crazy and bought it when I was 15.5 for $1300, got a one-weekend crash course from dad on driving stick, then the day after I got my license I was on my own for getting to school Had the car for a little over a year and it was a blast to drive - used to load it up with all my buddies after school, sometimes get it up on 2 wheels in turns, take if offroad and do donuts, get it on w/gf in tiny cab, typical 16yr old hooligan stuff. Then of course mom ruined the fun by making me install seatbelts (didn't have any from factory) and then later forced me sell it because it was nickle and diming me since it was breaking every month and she didn't think I was "safe" - brake parts literally falling apart inside drums, clutch cable snapped, pedal brackets failing, electrical gremlins, trans synchros failing, random hole in carburetor - WOW, VW sure makes some quality vehicles Sold it for $1900, wish i could have kept it.

Since then I've owned: '93 Volvo 240, '87 Toyota xcab turbo 4x4, '83 K5 Blazer diesel, '91 Volvo 740, '83 Datsun 720, '01 Suzuki SV650, '03 Suzuki SV650, '06 Honda Accord Hybrid. Current fleet: '93 Toyota xcab 4x4 22re, '01 Corolla S, '02 UZJ100 Land Cruiser, '03 Tacoma 2wd, '13 Prius II, and lastly '06 Suzuki SV650s

First car was a 1970 Chevy Malibu (Chevelle). My old man taught me how to rebuild an engine. It was a 350 we built with some speed parts based around a Crane 3/4 grind. Sure was a tire roaster but it was in rough shape.
