tow rig advice needed
Not really sure where to post this so if it does not belong here and should be moved somewhere else please say so. Well my 1987 Toyota pickup died the other day and I've decided to upgrade to a new daily/tow rig. I've been looking at tundras, ram 1500s, ram 2500 gassers, and ram 3500 diesels. Not really sure what would be the best for towing my 87 since I've decided to now make it a actual toy, and serve as daily driver duty as well.

i had an 07 Dodge Megacab 2500 CTD. Great truck other than the battleship turning radius.
When the missus was laid off I had to downgrade to a 1/2 Dodge. It tows my 81 on a flat bed just fine. The 2500 obviously towed it with out knowing it was there.
I would recommend at least a 3/4 ton

On some of the Dodge Diesels there are two fuel pumps. One will go out and it will still run until the other goes out and that is an expensive fix. A pressure guage is a much needed upgrade that would save that major expense. Some Dodge or diesel forums will be able to explain it better.
You did not mention Ford but just to make you aware of the 6.0. It is known as the Sick O or Sicko. The EGR is a poor design and is an expensive repair. The EGR delete is a good fix for it. I think it is the 7.? that most prefer. I seen an episode on TruckU or Trucks about the EGR delete for the 6.0 if you can find that episode about it as well.
Each will have pros and cons but most can be fixed or easily upgraded if known about the problem. The bigger the truck for towing is better, but getting around for everyday use can be a real pain in parking lots and such.

It will haul a Toyota around just fine for you. It is bigger then my 01Runner and I haul trucks with it all the time. You will have an easier time with the 1500 then I do my Runner.

I have been using my 03 for 1.5 years. It tows it just fine, just make sure you have trailer brakes and a good brake controller

my 01 tahoe hauls full-size trucks just fine with oversized wheels. toyota would be a sinch. a duramax/allison combo does real nice though. dodge diesels built before the clean diesel move are highly dependant on the sulfur of the old fuel for lubricity, so it's a gamble if they will last. ford buffed up when they took over from thier international motors, and still haven't made them work right.
