Sorry but I'm excited. A notification that there's movement on the project came over my email. It's a good sign that there aren't any building materials propped on it any more. Maybe you can push it into the driveway and wash it. It would be a free cost morale booster. I think I recognize the air cleaner as a Cal Custom chrome thing you could buy at K-Mart in the 70's. A friend had a white '69 Corona just like this one so I saved this random internet photo for her. Don't tell me it's a '68 or a '70 because I can't tell the difference.

I would really like to think that I can get rolling on this. Posting here and getting some encouragement from y’all is helpful. I’m only doing outdoor jobs for work right now so I’ll need something to do on rain days.

 

Great to see you back at it, I enjoyed your 4Runner resto, and I am looking forward to seeing this Corona on the way to recovery.

We got to do a little more tear down today. Pulled the manifolds off, all the fuel and ignition components, starter, etc.
Then the moment I’ve really been waiting for: removing the head. Everything came apart pretty easily, only broke a bolt on the exhaust manifold where it dumps into the pipe at the y.
I am not optimistic, however, that this motor will be salvageable- it obviously sat with water in it and the corrosion is extensive so far.
All the push rods are shot. I need to get deeper into the motor once we pull it out.
I’d really love to bring this motor back if at all possible!

I suppose it may depend on what parts I need/can source to get it all back together.

Hey all, I’m still here, so is the little Corona.

I regret to report that no progress has been made for a couple years now. We had another kiddo (I’ve since been fixed so that’s the end of that!) and starting my own construction company ended up being very time consuming.
I’ve since closed the construction company and for the last year I’ve been in the process of starting a new business.

I still visit the Corona down in the garage from time to time. I’ve done a lot of research and I have decided to swap in a 22r motor as it seems this little 3r-c is beyond trying to repair. I tore down the rest of the motor and it’s not pretty. Water had been sitting inside for too long. The whole bottom end is corroded and parts are virtually impossible to find.

Keeping it all original isn’t particularly important to me, I just want to be able to drive it!

I still have a couple years to meet my goal of having it ready for my oldest daughter’s prom.

I sure hope you all are well!
