Just got a recall notice on my 97. Apparently they can go up in flames due to a potential speed control deactivation switch brake fluid leak. We laugh because we call it the Exploder and look, it almost really is!

It's the numbest driving experience we own, but it gets us around when the other vehicles are down. The ball joints went bad, one side at 80,000 miles and the other at 95,000. The a/c blend door breaks on these (as mine did) and can be an expensive fix but there's a $10 kit that does the job fine. It was repainted once under warranty and the paint's crackling again. Other than that it's been reliable and pretty much problem free.

yea a exploder or jeep maybe cheaper but add up the cost to keep it on the road and you will see a toyota would of been cheaper to begin with lol

If you think the 3vze has headgasket issues, your in for a treat with the explorer. If its an auto, get ready to spend a whole lot of time walking. I only speak from experience, had two of them. Always had trans issues and headgasket problems. Those explorer were also the number one cash 4 clunkers vehicle, should say something right there about their quality.
