I agree, I always found it really cool to find original parts on my old cars or some kind of history, my 1963 Nova SS still had the original bias ply spare in the trunk with the jacking instructions. I loved when I would find stuff that gave more character to the car, my first car a 1967 Impala, I found a newspaper clipping from when the car was for sale in the nickle ads in the early 90's.

That was one of my first experiences with drum brakes, don't miss that a bit.

The car is looking real nice and coming along well, I keep wanting to get a driving project car as I know if I got one that wasn't running, I would probably never do anything with it.

yeah. its a fun little car. sure its ugly, but its a blast to drive. I cant wait to have a built 289, T-5 swap and a tight suspension that can handle the turns. Everyone thinks i should just leave it ugly, build the motor up, swap some 4.10s and LSD on it and just roll with it lol but I want a clean machine.

So my plans today were to get it reigstered. I insured it yesterday for a whole 60 bucks. so what went pretty easy.

Now for the ugly part. Called the DMV. Its got 720 dollars in back fees from being idle from 2005. LUCKILY I bought it from a CHP officer. I basically need to do a statement of facts that its been in storage since 2005. and hope for it having no traffic tickets since then. lol

WOW, you would think, being CHP, he would have had it NON-OP, like even most knobs would, right? hehehe. Good thing you have a plan, hope it works out and you get it down to the 100$ or so it should be to register

Well the CHP officer actually only owned it for 2-3 weeks then sold it to me. He bought it for his step son as a surprise and ended up not wanting anything to do with it ( spoiled little crap head ) So he has absolutely no ties to it what so ever and everything is still in the previous previous owners name. Granted, I have all the information to that owner. his name, address, phone number, etc etc. So i shouldn't have any issues. The CHP officer owner actually just called me to see how its going. Hes not avoiding the situation at all and hes 100% confident that the statement of facts will work. I have an address to the storage center it was stored in since November of 2005. This'll go great.

LOVE that last line, ......."THIS'LL GO GRRRRRRREAT! " hahahahaha. But no, I'm sure it will, no doubt. It's just that, WELL, ...it's CALIFORNIA, they're NOT so nice at the DMV! lol. SO, do you have AAA? Might get an agent there that KNOWS DMV folks.... Ya know? (we did and it worked! lol. Old dude worked it out on my 86 Beast, saved me 287$! woot! )

Best wishes, and sorry you're having to suck up time with that crap... Meh... guess you'd have to spend comparable time just reg'ing it, ...just add a couple hours, right? JUST BE REALLY KISS BUTT! lol.

This is rekindling my interest in my car. I was lucky and bought it for $1500.00 2 month before the "Gone in 60 Seconds" remake came out.
Over night values tripled!

I really liked the Edelbrock 600cfm on my 289. It was a cinch to tune with the easily replaced needles and seemed to run real clean.

I think I used 620 Coils in front with all new Poly bushings and a 1 1/8" bar up front. Lowered the back down 3/4".

Hope the DMV issue gets resolved with little $$$ changing hands.
I recently registered a dirt bike in Cali that hadn’t been registered in 16 years and surprisingly it went smoothly and only cost $40.00 or so.
Had to have a CHP inspection and a DMV inspection but gave me no grief about having ZERO paperwork on the bike.

Its depressing I just went outside and looked at her :jessica:

Once this thing is ready to roll, I'm sure many trips to sonora will be in its future... it would be a blast in those turns and stop at the bridge to take some pictures! haha

I would love love love to get this car reliable enough to just cruise it everywhere... Im not saying it isn't reliable right now, But i just dont know whats been done to it, or the mileage on the motor to really "trust" it.

It runs so smooth, its unbelievable. no ticking, or noises. ( which is why i bought it )

I plan to do an aluminum radiator, upgraded waterpump, electric fan, and an oversized aluminum oil pan to make everything run cool and smooth.

Im hoping maybe someday that I can drive it to LA and show my girlfriend's dad. ( his first car was a 1967 Dark moss green mustang. ) so thats a goal

The car needs a couple things... For some reason the previous owner painted the engine bay white ( dumb ) they're factory black. So im thinking of pulling the motor, getting the driver side shock tower repaired ( its cracked ) and then taking it in for paint.

while the 2 week downtime on paint, im thinking of doing some stuff to the 289... Im HOPING for a 300-400 horsepower little street monster. I'd LOVE a t-5 swap, 4.10 gears and LSD in the rear.

But i need to get the truck done first! i have a full lift for it sitting in the garage and then i need to get it some tires. lol so that first!

Mine also has the FoMoCo radio in the dash.
One of my favorite mods was to put a modern CD radio in the glove box.
I fabbed up a simple plate that it mounts thru and supported the back with a metal strap.
Make sure to get one with a remote control if you do this.
Kinda hard to reach while driving without one.

yeah the car came with a radio bezel that is trimmed for a newer style deck. so I might put that in once I get around to stereo related mods. As far as the stereo goes? Im going to at some 6x5s in the kick panels and replace the 6x9s in the back. also going to take a sub from my 4Runner, buy two new single boxes and run them that way.
