No real updates.

I'm talking to a mustang fabrication specialist about getting my driver side shock tower repaired. I have a huge feeling its going to be serious $$$$ to get it replaced.

 

Get the locals competing for the work, Mak! Can't hurt, right? "I'm hurting a bit here... but I AM DOING ALL I CAN, MYSELF, TO RESTORE HER ".... make that smile a lil pathetic and SEE if the price drops a bit, right? hahaha. Can't hurt to try, EVERYONE should attempt to chisel down the bid!

 

haha yeah. Im like fighting myself though. I NEED to put the lift on the 4Runner and get tires for it. and then start doing stuff to this car.

I find myself constantly looking at mustangdepot, mustangsplus and mustangs to fear for modifcations. haha I LOVE LOVE LOVE mustangs to fear's interior modifications... the door panels and the center console they have is seriously the sexiest on the market, and they know it... which is they they're like 800 bucks for a set of door panels and 800 for just the center console. lmao

 

There is a place in L.A., Mak, that's INSANE! They do great leather seat upgrades and panels, etc., for very reasonable... I'll post it up in case you decide you want to take a trip down here in it and have it done while down here? EVERYTHING is cheaper down here for a reason... NOT always due to it being 'CHEAP WORK'.... it's the competition beast! lol. (IF I can find it again, that is.... It was on CL I first saw it, but they are well known by builders down here that I've spoken too...and they do MANY rigs, not just classics. But yes, places like "PINKS" and others, they do the MOST INSANE custom stuff and they KNOW they are the best,....and they charge according to what they feel their work is worth... AND, they are never short of work, so that says alot! lol.

 

Just got quoted $1000 bucks to restore the engine bay. This includes:

Fixing/bracing the broken shock tower and bracing the other.
New seals
Engine bay professionally painted

But the catch is I have to pull the motor myself and provide transportation. I have a lift and tires to put on the 4Runner. and the rear window needs to be fixed. So Im gonna wait on that for now.

 

I got my start in motors on a red 68 with a balck vinyl top just like your with the same hood. 289 with a C4 in it. I wish I would of kept the 289 in it. That is one I am still kicking myself in the butt for letting go.

 

love vinyl tops, if they're in good condition. yeah i plan on keeping the 289, but doing it up a little bit. it'll get a T-5 behind it at some point.

 

little update.

got ALL of the backfees on the mustang waived All i had to pay for was current registration, transfer fee, california tax, and a reprint title fee. for a whopping $165 bucks! totally made my day.

Let the mods begin! ( after i buy tires and put my 4Runner's lift on ) lol

Funny Ford Story: When I still drove mine I got all my parts from a local Mustang and Ford shop here in north San Diego. He was restoring a 62 Fairlane that was a 1 owner car that had never been in a accident or had any repairs done at all. Stripping down the drivers door he found a bottle of whiskey laying in there! Also said that he seen parts used on some cars that shouldn't of been there for the year they were made. Might explain why my 68 doesn't have side marker lights but should as it was a law in 68.

 

Yeah. I was in there for less than 30 minutes and registered both the 4Runner and mustang for under 300 bucks! lol ( I got both vehicles transfered into my name, both titles printed, and both registered. so one was 130 and the stang was 165. )

Also, I drove the mustang around the block and down to go get some gas. it drives so smooth and runs great. it get so much attention even though it looked like a complete pile ( it has no hood on it right now ). I really cant wait until I get the ball rolling on this. The guy i bought it from yesterday texted me and asked how everything was going. he wants to see it once it has new tires, wheels, and paint on it. lol

 

Dude, .... yesterday, a 67 Convertible rolled up and I MISSED THE SHOT with my phone... I'll try to look at it on my puter, but OMGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! Drool! lol. It was a Metallic Burgundy red, black top, steel style wheels... HOLY CRAPULA, ...it was nice. I thought of yours right away, hahaaha. How funny is that?

Anyway, HURRY UP SO I CAN COVET THAT THING MORE! lol hahah. JK, good news about the reg'! Stupid fees out here are getting CRAZY! My buddy in TX pays like 38$ for his Runner! lol. WTH?

 

yeah my 4Runner is 95 every year, usually... lol ridiculous. my mustang is 45 every year. :/ my brother pays 35 for his 65. lol

yeah. I have a really good feeling about this mustang. Like i said, I took it for a quick little drive down the road to get gas and then over to my buddies house. it just drives so smooth. its unbelievable. I LOVE the power steering on it. I've driven my brothers and mine. and I must say the PS is a must have.

 

OH HELLS yeah! Standard steering on a old lead sled? NOT FUN! lol... Especially if they have fat meats on em, ya know?

Maybe flush and fill that steering, too, ya know?(although, sure enough, if it's working, maybe really inspect the fluid first?) I put an inline filter on my rig, .... UNREAL how much crap that grabbed after the gear box swap and all new ATF! FILTHY! Those lil socks really work, man.

 

So the mustang had a cracked edelbrock manifold. Which REALLY disappoints me because the previous owner charged me an extra $100 bucks for that thing and it was a complete PoS... I'm gonna order the Edelbrock RPM air gap intake manifold brand new from summitracing.com this friday. Its two models better than just the normal performer intake. This manifold will basically increase the power band and provide maximum flow.

Im actually gonna get a smaller air cleaner, and it should fit, but barely. If I decide to keep what I already have, I'll get a cowl hood. since im not dedicated to the body work just yet. I dont mind buying a hood for it eventually.

I did get a quote for paint though! $5,500 for a complete strip down, and lifetime warranty Dark moss green paint job. Which actually isn't that bad. Paint jobs on a classic are usually upwards of $6,500 - $9,000. :O but because my vehicle has zero rust, they worked with me a little bit
