WTB 96-98 4Runner Chrome Grille for Satoshi

Looking for a 96-98 chrome grille to use for making a Satoshi modded grille. Dealer has them for right at $100 new, I'm looking to pay $40-$50 for one in good shape, no scratches, and all mounting tabs present.

Located in zip code 37214.

Yeah, that'll tell the tale. I did e-mail the guy and ask what kind of shape it was in and he claimed it was in great shape with no nicks. We'll see.

Grill arrived today and was in very good condition. All mounting tabs present, relatively clean, and only one very small nick in the front that's not even visible from 2 feet away. Very minor chrome crinkle on the very top that is covered by the hood when installed.

It's a perfect candidate for a Satoshi. Also received my FJ40 Toyota emblem today from Northridge. Now I just gotta find the mesh.

when i did my satoshi i went to Home Depot and got some "Gutter Guard" that fit perfect with slight overlap to bend around the edge of the inside. i did a half-ass way of doing it and opted not to paint it all nice like, but instead i sprayed Duplicolor spray on bedliner all over the inside including the gutter material, i taped off the chrome of course. i think it looks Grrrrrrrrreat, but that's just me. seems like it will be durable, covers everything nicely, and i didn't have to worry about the paint looking perfect since this stuff is textured and a flat black color; EASY. i should have some pics up in the coming week to give you an idea of what it looks like if you're interested.

glad you snagged it for a good price and it was all in good condition

patrick

i tried to post a link to the stuff on home depot's site but it didn't work. search for "gutter guard" then look for the stuff that's called " 5 Pk - 6 In. x 3 Ft. Hinged Gutter Guard
Model 852806", that's what i used, it's just metal mesh, pretty sturdy stuff. HTH

I'm 85% complete with the Satoshi grill. What a PITA it has been. I'm super anal and over engineer everything so that's probably why. It's not been hard per se', just tedius and time consuming.

The fiberglass was the easiest part. The Bondo a little harder. I'm gonna pick up some finishing putty today to fill in the little pits in the bondo. I believe they're from air pockets that show up when sanding. Other than the 5 or 6 little pits it's perfect.

I found some 1/4" expanded aluminum sheet at a local machine shop. The guy sold me a 18" x 48" sheet for $16. Seemed kinda pricey but he said that's what they pay for it. The expanded aluminum looks almost exactly like what came in 69-73 FJ40s only it's a tad smaller opening which fits the smaller 4Runner grille better. It took me about 2 weeks to locate this material.

Shaping this metal was the hardest part of the project by far. I didn't want to just have it overlap the opening, I wanted it to bend around the edges. This makes it much more rigid. So I had to use pieces of wood and a hammer and form the expanded aluminum to the shape of the grille opening. That part took about 2 hours.

All I have left to do is mount the metal to the grille, mount the Toyota emblem, then take it all apart for painting. I hope to finish today and I'll post some pics in a new thread.
