My trusty ol 97 4Runner is in need of a new CD deck. The aftermarket Kenwood with the tiny impossible-to-use controls has gasped it's last breath, and I want to go back to the OEM Double-DIN deck that fits right and looks right.

I believe that I can use one from any year up to 2002, but I'm not sure about that. I have also heard that the amp needs to be replaced as well, but I'm not sure about wiring adapters.

Anyone know for sure what my options are?

Got an OEM deck that you want to get rid of??

Why not just get an aftermarket double din head unit?

If this was my primary vehicle, I would probably spend the $$$$ to get a nice Pioneer double DIN unit, but this is primarily the wife's kid cart. I need something that looks right, and is SIMPLE to use. She's a very smart person in so many ways.......but technology is not her strong suit.

 

eBay has a ton, but most of them are in the same price range as a good aftermarket unit.

 

true that eBay usually has some..........but the prices are generally stupid. I would rather buy one from someone here.

 

if you need the stock amp, i'll sell you mine for shipping.... it's just sitting around collecting dust. probably be around $5 or so...

 

I have this one currently in my '97 Limited. I've been wanting to install an Alpine HU, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's clean, not beat up, and everything works fine.

If you're interested, make me an offer. I can pull it and ship this week.

Not trying to highjack your thread but I am in the same situation. I would like to keep the factory look but what all models will fit and wire up correctly with the 3rd gen 4runner.

 

If nothing else works out, I also have the Headunit and amp that I took out of my 99 limited a couple years ago. Make an offer.

 

what are the specs on that stock amp, i might take it off your hands
