Exclamation JDM Surf Electric/Digital Compass and Fender Mirror!

Here are a couple of rare items that I have obtained for sale on ebay...The option electronic compass/barometer/outside temp display which replaces your front dome lights and the passenger side fender mirror which a few people have asked me for. These are both for/from the 3rd GEN Surf(4runner). They start in a couple of hours, so check out ebay under the seller JDMISME(after 6:45pm PST). Any questions, don't hesitate to PM me!!

does this come with the needed sensors? is there anyway to change degrees to Fahrenheit? looks cool, too bad they don't sell that in the US. Better than the in-mirror ones I thnk.

As the price of this goes up... keep in mind that shipping to the US is stated to be $25.

I'd bet that it's locked into Celsius for temp and hPa (hectoPascal) for pressure. Hmmm...

I doubt that there are sensors in there, and they'll be interesting to hack in. Thermocouple for outside temp, hydrometer (may be internal), accelerometer (though it probably ties to the spedo) and compass.

The mirror woould be pointless. It's for the opposite side of the driver.

Sorry guys . I'm going to re-post it in a few days . When I was checking out the wiring, I found that the compass, barometer and altimeter (I forgot to mention that it was an altimeter, also...) are all built into the unit and need NO sensors. All necessary wiring has been figured out. The only thing that I am unsure of is where the signal for the green lines (speed indicator) comes from. I know which wire controls it...just need to find the source. I'm pretty sure, as midiwall also pointed out, that it ties in with the speedo wire coming directly off of the ECU but more than likely off of the speedo because when I disconnected the gauge cluster unit (speedo specifically) the lines did not move. Also, when the lines don't move, the compass does not read correctly. So finding the source to that is important. I don't want to be selling a half-a$$ed set up that no one can use...that's just the type of seller that I am. The only sensor that is necessary is the outside temp sensor. I'm going to hunt down that bad boy and go from there. So......if you can find out exactly which wire controls the speedo, the speed indicator/compass bit is taken care of, I think. I am going to relist with this new info and measurements of the housing(for cootees) . Hold on guys...it'll be there.

Let me know what you'd want for it as is. I don't mind trying to figure out how to make it work. I install/service climate control in greenhouses for a living, and also wire up & program plc's on a regular basis.
I've found carwiring to be quite straightforward. If I figure it out 'll then post it in case other people want to do this too.
I think the wire going to the Diff lock ECU for speed could probably be used. I just looked it up and it is green/orange (Pin 10). The locking diff cannot be engaged above 5km/hr.

Ok ladies and gents, the auction is back up again with a lot more info and pics.... Here is the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MESE%3AIT&rd=1

This new auction should answer EVERYONES questions.

arjon: that was a beautiful find!! Thanks. Now the whole wiring system for the gauges is 100% COMPLETE! I put in a kind word for you in the auction!!

As stated in the auction, this item has taken me quite a bit of time to prepare and get out there....I hope it gets a few dolla's.....

When I get some more time, I will be posting the complete wiring instructions. I'm sure that this item will become a 'must-have' item..... Where should I post that, by the way?

Totally, totally off topic (but now that i have your attentions...)---- can a 2'' lift kit from a 2gen be used on a 3rd gen? If not, why? is it modifiable to work? Thanks guys.

Do you think you could get a hold of more of these? I am sure lots of people would be interested. Also, does anyone know when these are not available in the US? (with F instead of C)? Seems like a cool option to offer in the US.

I was a seller of JDM parts before I was a Surf owner. My business is selling parts on ebay. I'm sure I could find more, it's just a matter of how much I can sell them for. This particular unit I found/removed myself, so I'm not getting charged for removal and shipping fees. Any more units would have to be located through my contacts in mainland japan (I am located in the largest of the southern most islands of Japan) via the internet/email. Those items would cost much more than this one did. It's all a question of whether or not the profit ratio is enough. I know that sounds bad as a member of Yotatech and as a fellow Surf/4runner owner, but again, that is what I do...sell sell sell.
