Im still on the hunt for tires and have setteled to an agreement. I will be getting a A/T set right now (285/75x16) and then get some mud tires for my play set (probably 255/85x16). I have liked the Yoko ATs for some time but never could get much out of the board on experiances people have had with them. I like the 40k milage warrenty they offer. And the fact that they are cheaper than BFG by a little. Any one Run the Geolander ATs II?? Pics would be cool to!

eh they are ok, the bfgs are much better... they dont last 40k they lie, and they are very soft, if you dotn rotate them every 1000 miles they will cup, badly... i used to work at a tire place, and we used to have to warranty the tires out as a manufacturers defect a lot, because of most people only rotate them every 5000 miles or more and the geolandars need to be religiously rotated every 1000 or so....

is this for the new ATs II or the old ones. I know Yoko used to have a really soft compound for the ATs and MTs. But they say they have corrected that. hmm, wonder if I can get a few pairs of tires for the price of one thru this 40k warrenty. hmmm

depeends where you go... the warranty wasnt the yoko warranty that came with the tires, it was the internal policy of the tire company to warranty the tires that wore out too fast, if the customer had an alignment done and their tires rotated at proper intervals and still ahd half the advertised life... however the company i owrked for would give the customers crap... it was about customer retention

I had a set on my '97 and rotated them every 4k and no wear problems at all over 20k til I sold the truck. Also if you don't see 40k then you get your next set cheaper(this has been the case with all the tires I bought through Discount Tire). The BFGs are nice but as I've read and said before is the BFGs aren't that good in the rain at highway speeds,not really grippy on dry pavement and no treadwear warranty and while I love the look the BFGs don't suit my daily driving needs plus the cost is about $60 a tire more than the Yoks. Off road tho' the BFGs do the job and have stronger sidewalls than most common AT tires and that can be a big difference if you off road regularly.

i have the AT+II on an '04 runner. i love them. so far, i like them better than the bfg's i had on my '90 xtracab. i know it's not quite the same comparison in vehicles, but they handle and ride better on and offroad. the bfg's are stronger in the sidewalls though.

the outer lugs are longer and help with cornering, while the lateral lugs in the middle really grip well to pull through. they self clean quite well. very sure-footed in rain and snow.

so far i have about 14,000 miles on them and not much wear yet.

The AT II's are a good tire, and a more modern tread design than the BFG AT's. I had them my Trooper for about 10k mile and then sold them to a good friend of mine with a 2004 Tacoma.



They are a softer compound, which will wear out faster. However, a softer durometer will adhere and deform better to rock, improving traction. Remember the BFB Moab edition tires... The AT II's also have a more open tread patern on the shoulder for mud and snow. And good siping for wet and icy conditions. Overall I would rate them a great tire, though more proned to sidewall damage than a BFG.

For reference: I have owned about 7 sets of BFG AT's and 1 set of Yokohamas, and driven with both BFG AT's and the Yok' AT II's on the same vehicle

Did you ever have any problems with cupping or wear with those tires? How often did you rotate them?

I rotated them with every oil change, right at 5,000 miles. I would say that they have a higher wear rate than the BFG's. But you get better adhesion, so there is a performance advantage.

I have had BFG AT's go 50,000 miles and still have 30% tread left (on a light vehicle).

Oh, and one more comment that may help. Tearing:

The BFG, because of the harder rubber will tear if used aggressively. I have had complete side lugs rip off, and other sizeable chuncks of rubber tear from the AT's I have used. (this was a big issue with my Discovery II that had traction control).

Whereas the Yoko' AT II's are softer and will deform instead. BUT, they get a lot of small tears, smearing, etc.

Yeah,finally some props and a nice endorsement for the uncommon choice;it seems it's all about Revos around here for a cheap AT tire and while they're good the Yoks are a nice alternative and cheaper. I talked to a friend that had them on his Tacoma and he saw about 45k out of them but they saw alot of off road miles too. I'm still torn between another set of the Yoks or the TerraGrapplers but the Yoks are about $90 cheaper out the door.

I'd get them if the had more sizes available for a 17" wheel, but as it is I want a bigger tire than they offer. I may be going with a 16" wheel though since they are $60 cheaper per tire.

I have never had a better tire, myself. Down here I get to take them in many mudpits as we don't have too many hills and rocks, and they fling mud like no tomorrow. I still have yet to get stuck and they have save my butt a couple times in wet weather. Though the BFG may get a little better wear, they cost a lot more and don't handle *ALL* terrains as well. Currently I don't think there is a better AT tire then the Yokos.
