Yet another tire question!/need opinions

Hello All
This is my new to me 87 runner, the red one. Love it and I wish I had bought one a long time ago.
P/O had these wheels on it when I purchased it.

One major concern that I have is... are these tires too big for a stock 22re setup? LT325 / 60 R15 are they robing horse power and MPG? Im thinking I would rather have more narrow 50 R15 and narrower rims. Plus the rear wheels rub the top of the fenders (out wheelin) and the front wheels rub the frame.
Is this current tire size going to stress my drive train and clutch?

Im thinking of going with the same looking wheel as the white 4runner that I found on the web.
Any guess as to what size the white 4runner has on it?

I run 33" tires and stock rear end gears on my 87 4Runner.

However, it is a trailer queen so I don't have street driven numbers, but I do know that larger than stock tires will make your MPG's go down.

Now will 4.88's help 3rd and 4th gear when going up hills on the highway too.
Can an average person change out the gears himself?

yes they will help you out. as far as the average guy doing gear set up...that is kind of up to the individual. I did a rear locker on my '81, it seem to be working ok but am still waiting for something to go thunk i screwed up and forgot to mark my carrier bearings side to side

Check out Zuk's Website: http://gearinstalls.com/ he is pretty much the master and has very well detailed write ups.

Changing the rear isn't a huge deal but the front is a lot more time consuming. You have to get set up kits for each R&P. You need to have the right tools to do both the F&R. It's best to make a set up bearing out of one of the old bearings to get everything right. I wouldn't attempt it until you read all the tech right ups you can find before you start the job.

I was thinking of going this route. Complete 3rd member with detroit locker $1.395.
Im assuming it would be an easier install.

Another newb question.
If I change the rear to 4.88s and leave the front @ 4.10 how will it perform off road in 4 wheel?

Thanks guys, Im new to Toyotas and 4x4s
