Wheel fitting issue?? Help!

So i went to 4wheelparts today to see final prices on wheels for my 4runner. i want the pro comp rock crawler street lock series i believe 151. i was going to get 15x8x6 on 5.5 which should fit right? i have a stock 95 4runner sr5 with the v6. i want to mount them on my 31x10.50. i go there and the guys says they wont fit cause the inside of the wheel will rub on the caliper. so im confused cause i see 2nd gen 4runners on here all the time with the same 15x8 wheels and i haven't heard of that. he said i could fit those rims but id have to get 16's which means i have to get new tires. what do u think? will they actually hit the caliper? can i buy smaller calipers? is this issue common? would some form of wheel spacer work. should i buy wider tires? should i get a deeper backspacing? idk. lmk wat u think.

thanks in advance.

What backspacing are those wheels? As long as they are 4.75" or less, should be no problems fitting unless they have some extra thick material on the inside. They tire place may be thinking of a solid axle Toyota where you need 3.75" or less backspacing. Wouldn't take much time for the shop to pull off a front wheel and just slide one of the wheels on to check the fit.

At 3.75" on an IFS truck, you'll have a full inch less backspacing than stock so inside clearance should not be an issue. You may find you run into tire rubbing on the outside at the wheel wells while turning, depending on lift and clearance. Your wheels will be a full 2" wider than what you have now, 1" wider due to the backspacing and 1" due to the wider wheel (8" vs. 7"):
